Who are you calling average?
This is an excerpt from a periodical called Stores. It was in the January 2006 issue. It's a very interesting read...
Based on the findings of the SizeUSA survey, whi*****luded 6,300 US women, the aveage woamn has the following measurements:
Bust 40.7"
Waist 34.4"
Hips 43"
Weight 155.6 lb.
Height 5' 3.9"
Of the 6,300 women scanned, 714 had a bust size that fell witin the range of size 8. The number of women whos waist size fell into that same range dropped to 180, and an even smaller group -- 87, to be exact -- had size 8 hips.
"That means that, based on the survey, less than 12 percent of women who are size 8 bust are actually a true size 8."
The article also went on to say that in the past styles were created for hourglass figures. In the study, 43% of women were pear-shaped, 37% apple-shaped, and 20% have a rectangular silhouette.
The article mentioned that until the launch of the SizeUSA survey, a comprehensive analysis of body shapes and sizes had not been done for decades. Back then the standards were created using white women who were in the military.
After reading this article, no wonder it is hard to find things to wear!
