Insurance question

I know someone who wants this surgery, but insurance will not pay. She was wondering if anyone knew what insurance companies were covering this now? She is thinking about paying for insurance on her own, and waiting a year. Has anyone tried that approach?

Cigna is still covering it - 6 month weight loss history, pysch eval, nutrition eval and letter from PCP. I think your job also has to have a rider. Beth

Maureen, Just wanted to let you know that I have an individual policy thru BCBS of GA, and they would not pay for my WLS Surgery, even if it was deemed medically necessary...specific exclusion. Norma

Hey Maureen, I have BCBS of GA thru my job. They are covering it for us still. My girlfriend just got her approval last week and will be having surtery next month. I think as far as insurance goes. It depends on what kind of insurance you purchase. I would imagine to have this surgery not excluded from an individual policy purchased on your own you would pay a considerable amount of money more than a policy that would exclude it. However our policy is a good one here at my job. They even cover plastic surgery as long as docs show medically neccessary and its documented. NAT
