Greetings everyone. I have been reading this forum for awhile but just decided to join. I am just starting towards getting WLS and have a few questions. Does anyone have experience with Great West (in terms of requirements)? My insurance does cover the surgery but I have not yet been able to get the specifics. Also, since I am not required by my insurance to have referrals from a PCP to a specialist, will I still need to be formally referred by my general physician (who by the way is anti WLS)? Thanks so much for your help. Just reading your posts have already been an inspiration. Mary Alice

Mary, I don't have any answers to your questions (lol) but I just wanted to welcome you to the boards Btw, I suggest getting a WLS friendly PCP - it will make your life easier before and after surgery. Kia

Some of the WLS do want a referal from your PCP, and others do not, it just depends on the surgeon. The first thing all require is a Weight Loss Seminar most of the surgeons have once a month or every other month. My surgeon at Peachtree Surgical and Bariatrics are having one on Feb. 28 at 5:30pm. You can find their website on web here that list surgeons. Than most of the surgeons will hand out a packet you have to complete and mail back to their offices and they will call you when they receive the packet and check it. Welcome to OH and I wish you all of the best that can come from your up coming journey. If I can help in any way just email me and if I can answer questions I will. God bless you and your family, and I wish you the best. Hugs, Lynda
