The roller coaster of WLS
First of all, let me thank you all for the support you've given me thus far. I'm sure you've all been where I am mentally so I know you'll identify with me.
I was all set to have the RNY, then I decided to get the lap-band. Well I've been on a 1000-1200 calorie diet for more than 4 weeks now and I'm just not losing weight. I'm drinking water and walking. I'm questioning if I've made the right decision. If I can't loose weight on 1000-1200 calories, I'm not sure the band will do what I need it to do.
Ok ladies, talk to me. I have 100lbs to loose.
For me 1000 - 1200 is a "maintaining" amount for me. (I had RNY) My initial weight loss caloric intake was less than 700 per day and I was working out vigorously doing an hour of cardio and an hour every other day with weights.....
How much water are you intaking. You should be getting in over 120 oz of water a day if you work out. (Remember sweating loses water - and the water you drink while working out is only replacing 1/2 of that....)
We all hit plateaus too - keep on track if you're where your doctor says you should be!
You may want to talk to a nutritionalist. They may be able to help you re-adjust your caloric intake!
Just my two cents!

Hi, Rose, I had 100 pounds to lose when I had RNY surgery nineteen months ago. I have lost 90, and have been at a plateau for seven months. An estimate is that you will lose 70-80%, so I know I should be pleased. I feel like a failure. Had I known then, what I know now, I would have probably chosen the less invasive surgery. My surgery went very well. I was pleased with my results, but, I am afraid of regaining, and my appetite is back. The good part: I am unable to binge (YAY!), but I think that's a result for lapbanders too. The bad parts: I am very afraid of regaining AGAIN. I feel tired often if not always because I forget my iron frequently. I may need to look into the iron shots.?. Your digestive system will be very different, and you may have major gas and related issues. Sometimes, DH says I sound like I am giving birth.
Sometimes, it feels like I am.
Rose, whatever you decide, we will support you...just wanted to give you the cons too.
Hugs,
Becky
Thank you for your responses. I'm sure I'm just having the same doubts and fears that everyone had pre-surgery. I'm sure I'm just hormonal and being too hard on myself. I'm going to look at it this way. I can go ahead and have the lap-band. I realize the weight loss will be slower, but that's ok. I'm already anemic so the lap-band will be safer for me. If I fail at the lap-band I can always have the RNY. I know I'll do good with the lap-band, I just have to be more patient with myself and increase my water intake and activity level.
BTW. I go about once a year and get an IV bag of iron. It is wonderful. I cannot take iron pills. They make my stomach hurt plus give me all the other side effects.
I appreciate you all and cannot wait till I become a big old loser like you all.
