Gwinnett County??
Hello Everyone,
My family & I are coming to Georgia the last weekend in February. We are looking to move there because we heard that the schools are excellent, the housing market is excellent and it's really a developing county. Can someone tell me what can we do other than look at houses while we are there? We are bringing our children with us, so we need somethings that are children friendly to do. The only person that we know in Gwinnett County is a older aunt, who has no small childern.
Thanks a bunch & Be Blessed,
Sharonne
Sharonee!
First, I think Gwinnett is a great place to live, especially if you have kids and if you able to work locally. I know I love it here.
As for what to do.... depends on what you had in mind... have you been to Stone Mountain Park? do you want something like a Game Pavillion: Jillian's at Discovery Mills is great. or maybe scating Rink? it really depends on what you want.
Let me know if you need any help or info. Even though I've moved here 5 years ag from Boston , I feel really comfortable here.
Best of luck to you with your plans and your move.
Rita
Thanks a bunch, Rita. I just checked out Stone Mountain Park website and that is something that I know the kids would like to do. We are actually looking at at house in Suwanee on Golden Meadows, umm..I am not sure if its Street or Road. But, thanks again and I am sure I will be asking you more questions as they arise in my head. I think we will be staying at a hotel in Norcross.
Be Blessed,
Sharonne
Cobb County has the best schools so if you are looking try there. But we have tons of restaurants, a lot malls one in particular would be the Lenox Mall and across the street is Phipps Plaza. In Gwinnett county they have this go-cart park called Malibu Grand Prix. It is a lot of stuff to do. May be you can get on a site that is referencing Atlanta. I am sure you will like it here there is a lot of opportunity here.
Hi Sharonne,
I live in Duluth, which is in Gwinnett County, and have lived here for 20yrs.
There are so many things to do in the Duluth area....
There is a Malibu Grand Prix - which is an amusement center, with rides (paddle boats, putt putt, race cars, and batting cages)
At the Gwinnett Arena (Sugarloaf Parkway) the Gwinnett Gladiators is a local hockey team that is lots of fun and not horribly expensive.
There are MANY MANY parks (here's a link to the parks & recreation facilities) http://www.gcvb.org/listings/index.cfm?action=showSub&catID=5&subcatID=88&startrange=All&endrange=All&substart=M&subend=S¬ify=1 In downtown Duluth, there is a really neat town green, with fountains and little shops.
(Don't forget!! Duluth is home to the "Runaway Bride!!" LOL!!! Her house is very close to where I live.)
There are three really big malls - Gwinnett Place Mall on Pleasant Hill Road, Discover Mills on Sugarloaf Pkwy and Mall of Georgia in Buford on Hwy 20, all are right off I-85.
At Discover Mills, there is a place called Jillians which is an indoor video game/laser tag/bowling/restaurant/bar for the whole family.
Along the same lines as Jillians is Dave & Busters - it is off I-85 at Steve Reynolds Blvd.
I'm not sure when you are coming, but Lake Lanier is a really great picnic spot and camping area.
Lake Lanier also has a grea****er park.
In Lilburn, there is the Yellow River Game Ranch, which is very popular with the elementary schools for field trips...it's a very kid friendly petting zoo, etc...
There is an ice skating rink in Duluth off Satellite Blvd and I-85 which is where our professional hockey team, the Thrashers practice. It's call the Atlanta Ice Forum.
Ok...I've rattled on enough...here's a link to the Gwinnett County Visitors Bureau.... http://www.gcvb.org/
Good luck!! Maybe you'll be my neighbor!!

Sharonne,
I've lived in Gwinnett county or Hall county (one county north) since 1969. I love it here. My girls both attended Hall county school. They were excellent. We live on Lake Lanier which is beautiful and very fun in the summer time.
While you are here, you have to try to go the new Aquarium. I think you can buy tickets online. Check the Gwinnett Arena also to see what's going on there while you'll be in town. They have wonderful concerts and things there and you don't have to put up with the Atlanta traffic.
We are also very close to the mountains. Helen, GA is about 1.5 hours from here and is very nice this time of year. It's an easy day trip or worth spending the night and seeing some of the other town or just driving through the mountains. They are truly beautiful. There are several parks in the North GA mountains that we go camping during the summer time.
Enjoy your stay and I hope you find much of our southern hospitality and charm during your visit.

That's the website for Gwinnett County Public Schools. Let me know if you have any questions about any of the schools or areas...
