My pre-Op appt is Friday 10/07/05 and I was supposed to lose 20lbs before surgery. Well I think I have actually gained about 5lbs since my consult. Will Dr. duncans office still give me a date or is it imperative that you lose it? Help Me! Thanks, Donna

I will be there on Friday also. I am getting my surgery date, too. I have also been having a hard time with the weight loss. I was supposed to lose 10 lbs. but gained 5 with all the stress of waiting. I have been working the last two weeks to lose some and have lost about 5. I think they will give you a surgery date but will tell you that you must lose it by your Pre op appt. I will probably see you there, I will be there at 11:00. Susan

Donna, I have heard he is becoming a stickler on it. But by no means take my word for it. Dr. Duncan says it is very important to loose the weight to shrink your liver prior to surgery. If you find out let me know. I went to get weighed today and have the nutritional consult and have lost 3lbs but need to loose 12lbs more before i have my pre op appt. Stinks too cause this and a support group meeting is all i have left. sandy

Hello Donna! I had similar issue with my pre-op...they'll probably give you dates and a diet plan to follow...when i went for my pre op they gave me 3 dates...complication class, pre op and surgery date...by what you're saying i think this is you pre-pre-op...anyhow..i only lost 2lbs and i had surgery on Monday...

Hi Donna! Here are some ways I lost 24lbs before surgery: Breakfast - always boiled egg, yogurt, cheese & 1% glass milk Snack - 1 piece of fruit Lunch - Small salad w/tuna 1/2 pk blue cheese dressing Dinner - Child's plate meal and/or small salad w/tuna, chicken or any kind of meat (1 serving) Snack - 1 piece of fruit For about 2 months my meals were the above - Drinks consisted only water - no diet cokes or carbonated drinks, no sugar switch to splenda now. Also, here's the reason why the doctor wants you to lose the weight: (1) It helps the liver shrink back to normal size & sugar enlarges the liver, if the liver is enlarged he cannot do the surgery. (2) It shows that doctors that you can follow a strict protocol and you're willing to do what ever it takes to get healthy. (3) It helps you reach your weight loss goal in the long run the more you lose in the beginning the better you achieving your weight goal. (4) Discontinue sugar switch to splenda. (5) Drink only water and/or 1% or skim milk (helps you lose weight, so does yogurt) my stats: 310lbs before surgery 276lbs day of surgery 152lbs total weight loss as of today 158lbs current weight Clothes size from 26/28 to 8/10. You can do this! We have faith in you. Don't stress over it just take it once day, one moment at a time. Besides you have to start getting use to eating smaller portions & meals if you start now it will help you in the long run. Take care & hope this helps! Karen

Thanks, Karen! If they give me a date I will follow that to lose whatever they ask. I like boiled eggs, tuna, yougurt, milk, chicken, and salad. Your diet is perfect for me. Thank you so much for replying and I will be sure to let you know how it turned out.
