thigh lift
Geraldine,
I wanted to share my experiences with reconstruction. I did my arms and tummy at the same time, first. That was one year post op. Three years post op I did my breasts and thighs (I was scared crapless I would loose sensation in my breasts, that's why I put it off so long). My now new hubby teases (good playing) me because my body pretty much looks like a roadmap from all my surgeries (between VBG & reconstructions).
From my OWN experiences I wanted to share with you that when it comes time to do it again after this corrective gastric surgery next month I know I will be looking for someone to do reconstruction again but no way in HECK will I even attempt to do my thighs again. After the fact I've found that not many people have much luck with a nice looking thighs! I didn't have much pain other than a PITB that I was non weight bearing for 6 weeks to let the cuts heal. It did remove the excess skin, well, about half of it, not all of it, BUT I have scars on my inner thighs from just about the bend of my hiney in the back, all the way around the inside of each thigh to about the middle of the top of my lap. Along the leg crease/bend. Never would I really consider any kind of tattooing but I can admit more than once I've thought the only way to hide that long and anywhere from 1 1/2 - 3" wide scars could only be 'hidden' by a FULL tattoo.
Now as far as the breasts, arms and tummy I would not hesitate to redo them again in a heartbeat. I went from a 48DD pre op VBG to having my surgeon modle them to 38C. Through the years since then (96 for breasts and thighs) I maintain a size 40D now. Another area that I have had excess skin removed twice without ANY positive results is in the front of private area {the pubic hair area} (BLUSH) and again, also after the fact, my GYN has told me that there will never be a way for my not to have excess skin in that area after WLS so I wont bother with that again either.
My original VBG scar that originally went from my sternum to my bellybutton now extends sternum to pubic area because when the tummy tuck was done the surgeon too 12" from middle abdomen and 10" on each side. The tummy tuck scar itself goes from hip to hip all the way across like a C Section scar (I think C Section is only scar I don't have, LOL). My arm lift scars go from right under each armpit to my elbows on the underside. I LOVE my arms. First thing I said when the bandages were removed from them is "WOW, I have sexy arms", LOL
My breast lift scars go from pretty much under my arm pits all the may to my cleavage point under each breast and from directly under the middle of each breast up to the nipples. The scars around the aerolas don't show, but are the circumference where the aerolas were removed and made smaller (Kinda 'neat' is the plastic surgeon who did my reconstructions takes a sterilized quater into the OR and cuts the aerola to that size, I don't know if they all do that). When I had my breasts and arms done (2 different times in OR) he also removed what I affectionately call my 'chicken fat', right where the arms bend down to the sides by the arm its. It looked like the fatty part you pull off a piece of raw chicken. So I have scars right there too, about 3 inches long. They faded pretty nice.
Now another thing I can tell you is that most of my reconstruction scars have very little if any sensation to touch. Especially my arms. However when weather gets damp I do get kinda 'twinges' where the scars are at.
Something that I find odd as far as insurance and the way people talk about plastic surgery here VS reconstruction surgery. Up north the only way BCBS would even consider paying for reconstruction is if it is medically necessary and my surgeon's letter reflected that ALWAYS referring to it as reconstructive surgery, never plastic surgery. Might be something to keep in mind, just in case insurance here is finicky as well. With a request fro reconstruction it didn't even take a month for approvals and was never denied (both times)
Hope this helps.

thanks that helps alot...my insurance denied it so I am doing one procedure at a time with the help of a loan. I dont know what to do now, legs or tummy first....kinda scares me to do my legs. i've heard so many horror stories. my flab down there is so bad that the doctor said i would have a scar from above the knee(inner thigh) all the way up. My legs are the worse about of my body at this moment. I bet they could take 5 pounds off each thigh lol how long were you out of work with your thighs and tummy...is your tummy flat?
Gerri
Hey again!
From having first hand knowledge I would suggest the tummy first. Better results physically AND in your mind. I feels awesome to havve a flat belly ... look down and see the feel
Something I just kinda thought of ... since I had mine done they do have a new procedure called a belt lipectomy, or body lift, I know there is one surgeon here in Rome that does it (I'll have to look for his name). It is where the basically go and make various incisions at the waist and pretty much do lipo but tighten everything from the knees up to the waist. I know this is something I am seriously considering once I get this gastric correction done and reloose weight. I'm getting off this thing now cause it is starting to thunder and I can hear the weather guy on TV saying we are about to get slammed with a heavy storm. I will make a not to myself and get the info next week fro you. Have a safe weekend.
