Ok, I have a question. Before my surgery I had not had a period in 6 months, my PCP said it was due to my weight (261lbs). I have lost 39 lbs and still have not had a period. I am only 35, I feel like I need my period. Will it come later? Tammy Gunter

Tammy, I will gladly let you borrow mine anytime you'd like! Seriously tho, I've heard hundreds of women don't have periods when they are obese. Including me. My gyny was very concerned that I was not having periods last year and put me on some med to get me going for about 6 months and it worked. Have been regular ever since. It IS important to have periods. It helps prevent cancer later in life because of the thickening of the uterine walls. Please seek out a good gyny that you can be comfortable with and have a good exam and see what he/she has to say about it. I have a great one if Macon is an option for you. I love my PCP but he does not specialize in womans issues and other than preventive measures he refers his patients out. Hope my 2 cents helps. ps. way to go on the 39 pounds lady!!!!

Tammy, have you thought about getting on the pill? I know there is a lot of controversy about whether or not it works for birth control with bypass patients, but I'm using it to regulate my period and it's working like a champ for me! Before surgery (200 pounds ago), I never had a period without the pill, and it might still be that way now, I'm not sure. But my period has gone from taking almost a week after my last pill to start, and going like 5-6 days, to taking 2 days after my last pill and lasting 3 days. Definite improvement! Now, if I ever get a boyfriend, I will certainly be using condoms, for all reasons! Don't want to test the strength of that pill! Kelle

I too have had horrible periods (either constantly 'leaking' or going months without). Last year when I had my pap I mentioned that I had not had a period for about 6 months and my gyn got concerned then talked me into getting a biopsy right then and there. Apparently if you go many months without a period, it puts you at a greater risk for cancers and other abnormalities. Of course the biopsy was no picnic but it all came back negative and that was when she started me on BC pills to regulate my period. Kia 284/216/155 (ish) lost 68 # so far
