Looking for some info....

Hi, I am currently in Hawaii, but I will be relocating to Georgia in a couple of months (end of July, Husband is in the military). We are moving to Fort Stewart.... I am looking for some one in or around that area who is military, who can tell me if the military hospital at Fort Stewart does the gastric bypass surgery, or would I need to find a doctor off post? Also can someone let me know how long after an approval from tricare they were able to have surgery? Thanks. JULIE

I don't have much info for you, as my husband is stationed at Warner Robins I had the surgery Feb after about 7 months total work (gettting all the t's crossed and i's dotted) Dr. Appel up by Atlanta did my surgery - Tricare approved the surgery in about 3 days after Dr. Appel's office submitted the paperwork. After approval it took about 1 month to get the surgery but that is due to the surgeon's waiting list. Rumor has it the military doesn't do bypass any more at Fort Stewart BUT that is only a rumor I heard - your first step is to talk to your health care provider and they will submit the request for surgery. That is how I got sent to Dr. Appel - Tricare sent me to him! (he is a great doc btw, I highly recommend him). Best of luck getting your surgery Kia -63# to date
