CIGNA or United Healthcare
I am a teacher and my state merit insurance does not cover the surgery. I had planned to switch to Blue Choice from BCBS but now I find out they will no longer cover it. I was wondering if anyone here has CIGNA or United Healthcare. I have looked on the insurers page but most of the ones on there are from 2 - 3 years ago. Thanks for any help!!

I'm a state employee and I spoke to all the heathcare providers yesterday at a health fair. The carriers that used to cover WLS will no longer do it as of July 1st. I currenlty have BCBS and I started the process of trying to get approved 04/15/05. I'm told If I don't have all my clearances and a surgery date scheduled b4 July 1st I will not be approved.
I currently have Cigna through state health and they denied me Feb, 5 due to them saying WLS was not going to be covered in 2005. In reality state health signed an exclusion for WLS in January 2005 and the exclusion is to start on July 1, 2005. I have since hired a lawyer due to them not covering because of the exclusion in the middle of my plan year. They should have covered until July 1, 2005. It is a big mess but I am fighting it to the end.
I was told yesterday that there is a GA state manadate that HUMANA has to abide by! The mandate says that they are required to pay for WLS! Unfortunely, my employer is based out of AZ and there is where my policy orignated........... which means Humana does not have to abide by the GA mandate! They are allowed to follow Arizona law- which mean no paying for WLS! Good luck.......... Im still looking to!
