This is to anyone who is interested in the surgery but does not have insurance. It might be a little costly..but I wanted to give anyone looking for ideas a tip..I had a previous employer who was only going to cover the gastric bypass thru 12/31/04..so I got everything in line that I needed to be approved..countless times my paperwork was rejected for the slightest reason..not enough diet history/medical history etc...Dr Hixon's office (my Surgeon) tried until time ran out...Feeling very discouraged but not willing to give up..I quit that job..The insurance wasnt offering what I needed anymore..so I called around to a few temporary staffing services..and found a job..I also inquired about what insurance the temp. service offered..which all agencies offer insurance..but you have to pay the full premiums...and I found that most temp services carry well known insurance companies..The staffing agency I got a job through uses BC/BS of Western NY....I called the insurance company and inquired about the gastric bypass surgery...They said they didnt have an exclusion on it..as long as it was medically nessasary..all my paper work was filled thru my old insurance company..the new BC/BS took it with no problems..and approved my surgery within two weeks..The only downside to this is that I am still a temp employee with my company...which means no sick time or disability pay..will risk losing my job for the time off work...also this is pretty expensive..like $400.00/month..for the insurance premium..but I think its well worth it....I looked into other options..I am not disabled..so do not qualify for SSI..and no children..so no Medicaid..this is how I did it..Like I said..this is a thought for anyone who is having trouble...
