Hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone here has heard anything about Daniel Smith he is an Emory Surgeon. His name and telephone # is posted here on the website but there is no profile for him. My primary care referred me to him.

Hi Caren: Dr. Smith did my surgery on Feb 16th, I had a lap RNY at the main Emory Hospital. I really like Dr. Smith and found him to be knowledeable and very sincere in wanting to help me. I went through surgery fine with no complications and am feeling good--one week out. The only hesitation I offer about using Dr. Smith..is dealing with the office staff. He is supported by staff at The Emory Clinic and they are SLOW about everything and unhelpful with the paperwork. But since he was doing the surgery and not them, I stuck it out. Some of this may be because of my impatience, but no one seems to be in a hurry along the way except the patient! I attended my first seminar in August 2004 and had my surgery Feb 16, 2005. So it took about 6 months all in all. One month of that can be attributed to BCBS of GA, the rest scheduling appts and doing tests and waiting. If I had to choose over again... I would pick Dr. Smith again. Because I think you need to be comfortable with the surgeon and I really felt comfortable with him and his ability. Research bariatric doctors and get feedback from people here on the GA board about the doctors they have used. Good Luck on your journey. Email me if you have other questions. Kelly S

Thank you guys for responding to my message. This really helps me with my research! Does anyone know how many surgeries he has performed?

Hi Caren, Dr Smith performed my lap RNY on 1/24/05. I am one month post op and although I have been hospitalized twice since surgery with minor complications I would refer Dr Smith to anyone. He is a great doctor! I have also grown to love another surgeon at Emory who has taken care of me in the hospital and recent Dr visits, and that is Dr Ken Vansinkle, he is sooooooo wonderful and caring. Things do go kinda slow with the office staff at Emory, but Sonya works really hard and will help you out as best you can if you are patient and understanding with her. I attended their seminar in July 04 so it took about six months for me also, with one month waiting on BCBS of GA. Good luck and many blessings.

Thanks Lisa for the information. What kind of complications did you experience? Did Dr Smith require you to lost pre op weight?
