Our Story.......
A little over a year ago, on 3 February 2004 to be exact, at my highest weight and mentally at the lowest point in my life, I attended my first WLS support group meeting. I stepped into that meeting looking for hope and reassurance that I could have this surgery, live through it and improve my quality if life. When I say I was at my lowest point, I mean it. I loathed the person I saw in the mirror and spent many a day asking myself, "Who is that person I see in the mirror?" and "How did I allow myself to get to this point?" See I had been single for over four years and resigned myself to the fact that no one could possibly want me in the shape I was in, but on the other hand I really was starting to want to date again. Six months prior to this day, upon a suggestion from a friend, I wrote a letter to God asking him to send me a good man that could love me and my son. I wrote the letter, "sent" it off, (tucked it in my Bible) and told the Lord that I turned it all over to Him. So on the evening of 3 February, my friend Phyllis took me to my first support group meeting. That is the night James and I first met. I heard him say that he recently moved to Warner Robins and that he didn't have family in the local area. I immediately offered to help him any way that I could after his surgery. I told him that I could empathize with the fact that he didn't have family here, b/c I didn't either. I could honestly relate and hated the fact that anyone would have to struggle alone. I had no idea why I offered up help to a complete stranger. I certainly didn't have ulterior motives. I was sincerely just trying to be of help. But honestly, that is just who I am. After that day we became friends, attending support group meetings, gathering and soon social events and the like. We found ourselves becoming best friends sharing our struggles with obesity and confiding in each other things we had never revealed to anyone before. We were seeing the same Surgeon and then both decided to change Surgeons. (to Dr Duncan) We planned on having surgery at the same time but b/c of problems with his insurance it just wouldn't be so. So our WLS journeys took different paths but we were both there to support each other no matter what twists and turns this journey took on, but finally we have both ended up at the same destination. Over the course of this year, both of our lives have been transformed, mentally and physically in ways that words can not begin to express. We believe that God has blessed us with each other and we both know that with God first and foremost in our lives that we are destined for even better things to come. This board and the people involved with it mean so much to us. You all have been there with us supporting us along the way and we feel blessed to have you all in our lives too.
So, That's my story and I'm stick'n to it! LOL

What a wonderful story!!! Isn't it amazing how the Lord blesses when we turn it over to Him? He truly gives us the desires of our hearts if we are in His will. Psalms 21:2 "You have granted Tonya and James the desire of their hearts and have not withheld the request of their lips." Thank you, Lord!!!
Much love and blessings to you both!!!
