Need help from veterans
Eeew, Tonya...you got that right! Pureed meats sound gross to me too, right now. You and I are on different regimens, food wise...my list is just now allowing me to go to thinly sliced fat free deli meats, but I have not tried them as yet. While I was on the full liquid stage, baby foods were also allowed, but I still couldn't bring myself to buy the meats in baby foods. I remember tasting those when my kids were babies, and they were TERRIBLE! Some of the other baby foods are tolerable, though, like the meats mixed with veggies or fruits.
Maybe you can try some of the fat free turkey deli meat (good deal on it at Walmart), and puree it.
Anyway, it does my heart good to see you posting, and that you are feeling better. I am keeping you in my thoughts and prayers as you progress.
God bless you!
Pat

Ton.ya, make up chicken or tuna salad just like you did before surgery. Maybe switch to light mayo or miracle whip. Blend it, not to liquify but a smooth consistency. It's not bad actually. Egg salad works too for many. BUT, eggs don't work for a lot, so be careful with those. I learned to eat soft boiled eggs again...just smushed with a fork. The taste is yummy if you can get past the thought of it! ;) Good luck! Remember beans are just as good a source of protein.at this early stage....refried...or canned white or pintos, even blackeyed peas.
Hey Tonya...
Sorry I missed your IM last night. As for your question about pureed meats... I'm not too sure. I didn't have to go thru the pureed stage. But, one thing I can think of that would probably be good and has a little meat in it is the Bean with Bacon soups. I like the Walmart brand, or the Campbells brand. And since soup is already liquid, I would think it wouldn't be too bad if you had to puree it. Also, Taco Bells Pinto's and Cheese is already pureed and has loads of protien in it. I'm sure you could just grab a can of refried beans, and add your own cheese. Early out though, I found it was so much tastier if someone else cooked for me.
Glad your feeling better, and keep up the good work.

Tonya,
Hi girl. As you know you are one day behind my hubby. For him I took a can of Hormel Chili and put it in the blender. You get lots of protein from the meat and the beans. He loved it. He also is enjoying refried beans, potted meats and puddings. I also take a quart of skim milk and add enough powdered milk to make a quart. It doubles the amount of protein. He drinks that and I use it to make his puddings.
Hope you are now pain free or at least well on your way. He took the last of his pain meds today and sent me to get some childrens chewable tylenol (adult dose = 8 tablets). Sure hope that eases the little discomfort he still has. He will be returning to work on Feb 21st.
Thanks for all the ideas. I have come up with a few too. If anyone likes oyster stew, you should try this. I used skim milk, put in powdered milk and the oysters. BRummel and Brown butter. Put it all in the blender and pureed it really well. I loved it. It just infused the milk with the oyster. Very good. If you like oysters. I also made a sort of mock bean dip. I used canned pinto beans and boiled chicken breast. Garlic, seasonings that you like will work. Put it in and blended well. VEry good. And it went down well to. We should start a recipe book for bariatric paitents. I bet it would sell like crazy.
Take care!
