PLEASE HELP WITH PROTEIN!!!
Hey guys how do you get enough protein in????? I'm still not getting enough and I can tell by all the hair in my brush and on the bathroom floor . Do you have any tricks ? And does anybody know if that tasteless powder is any good the kind you can mix in food and what brand did you like? Please help, I'm going bald here
I can't wait to try Planet Smoothie myself... but in the meantime, I've had really good success with IDS Multi-Pro Whey Protein, the vanilla cinnamon flavor. It's not bad just mixed with water, and is really easy to add 5 gm or more of protein to even just 2 TBL of oatmeal, pudding, soup, whatever. I'm just 2 weeks out now, so the long-term effect on the hair loss has yet to be revealed! But I'm managing to get in 70-75 gm of protein every day so far, and still working up.
Good luck!

I'm 2 years post-op and I don't think I've lost one strand of hair. I have read about others having a problem with sufficient protein intake, but I have never experienced it.
I take 2 scoops of GNC Soy Protein 95 (50 Grams of protein) twice a day with 12 to 14 oz of cold water. I like the chocolate flavor. I find it delicious and easy to consume. Try it and see if it works for you.
My doctor told me yesterday that I have got to get my protein in or I would start loosing my hair so I went to GNC and found a premixed protien drink that is really good. It is isopur and it comes in a 20 oz bottle in all different flavors. I purchased 3 and did a taste test. I found that the grape and passion fruit is really good. It tastes like water downed kool aide. Each 20 oz bottle has 40 grams of protein. I just couldn't bring myself to drink the power stuff so you might want to give this a try. Good luck!

I hate the texture (thickness) of most protein drinks. This is what I do:
Champion Nutrition Whey Protein Stack (available online at several sites)
I use :
2 cups cold water
1 1/2 scoops of protein powder
2 tablespoons sugar free syrup (I find them cheap at TJ Maxx or Marshalls)
2 tablespoons of Benefiber ('cause I don't eat enough fruit or veggies to keep things moving on their own)
Blend in the blender, and pour over ice. It has the consistency of ice coffee. I like the Chocolate Protein with Kahlua flavored syrup the best.
Thanks Guys, purchasing the protein is no problem, it's getting it in a cup or eating whatever and it's not that it's gross to me I have one (matrix) and it taste good but I'm still not getting enough but I will try the new ones you gave me . I feel like every thing I put in my mouth should be protein, I'm only getting like 20 to maybe 25 grams.
Hi Cricket,
I will share with you something my Nutrutionist gave me early on as far as a schedule to use post-op.
7:00 a.m. - Supplement protein drink (at least 8 oz.)
9:30 a.m. - Breakfast
12:00 p.m. - Supplement protein drink (at least 8 oz.)
2:30 p.m. - Lunch
5:00 p.m. - Supplement protein drink (at least 8 oz.)
7:30 p.m. - Dinner
9:00 p.m. - Supplement protein drink (at least 8 oz.)
I try to keep stocked up with prepared protein shakes (can't handle the powders) available at Walmart, and I have found that following the above schedule has helped me immensely in getting in the required amount of daily protein.
When did you have your surgery? I checked your profile and it doesn't indicate. If you are at the stage in your diet where you can eat high protein foods, perhaps you can find out how much protein each contains and substitute the shakes for them during the day.
I haven't as yet experienced the hair loss, but I am expecting it to happen any time. I know that in the past...many years ago, when I had a hysterectomy, months later, my hair began to fall out. Thank God, it is only temporary though, but even so, it can be scarey, I know.
Please know you will be in my thoughts and prayers as you progress.
God bless you!
Pat
Scheduling is good, like Pat suggested. I try to work in 4 protein drinks every day, plus 3 meals (which give me extra protein). I'm only 17 days out, and was really cautious at first about the amount of fluid I would take in, and started with small protein drinks that would only provide about 12 gms of protein. Now I'm up to 23 grams per drink, so if I can get in 4 per day, that meets my goal even if I don't count the protein I get in my mini-meals. I've been trying to come up with a schedule that will work for me when I return to work. Probably something like this:
6:30 am protein drink
8:30 breakfast
(9:00 at work)
10:30 protein drink
12:30 lunch
2:30 protein drink
5:00 protein drink
(5:30 leave work)
6:30 dinner
I figure that even if I can get in only 3 protein drinks, that's about 70 grams of protein, plus meals. We'll see in time how it handles the hair loss. Keep us posted on how you're doing!
