Long Term Effects of Roux en Y?

How long has this surgery been done and are there any studies about long term effects and old age with WLS?

I 've heard of stories and studies but I dont know about any of them personally. Google the topic. Jamie

I had this surgery done at the age of 36 in 1988. It was done in Columbus, GA. I have had very few side effects from the surgery. The only medication I take on a regular basis is a B-12 shot every four weeks. At the time of my surgery I weighed 236 lbs. and I am about 5 ft. 2 in. tall. I originally lost down to about 100 lbs. Over the years I have had fluctuations in my weight but I normally stay between 125 and 130. I am now 53 years old but feel much younger than I did at 35. My son and daughter in law have both had the surgery. My son has lost over 200 lbs. since Oct. of 2003. My daughter in law has lost from a size 26 to a size 18 since Sept. of 2004.
