Lab Work Continued!

Well, my PCP, Dr. Bakshi, got my lab work and wants it done over. She wasn't too happy with my results. They transferred me to my regular lab immediately for an appointment at the lab on Wednesday. My iron level was mentioned again. This is pretty common, right? My follow up will be Feb. 18th at 10:45. At least, my tiredness is not just age-related! Pre-ops and new post-ops, be sure to have a good and established relationship with your PCP. I'm glad I do! I would appreciate it if you would keep me in your prayers. I'm not worried...just need some pep. I tend to be hyper anyway, so this is a bit of a drag. Hugs, Becky

Becky, you know I've emailed you to say I've felt a kinship with ya in several ways. It's funny. I "think" I need to find another PCP. I was at mine's office last Friday for sinus infection. Her Physician's Asst. said, "Oh yes, I mentioned to her that you were previously asking about bloodwork, etc. for fatigue. She said that your SURGEON was to do that...NOT her." My surgeon's opinion is that he would like them to work as a partnership, though, I can see all this in the cards...surgeon's don't have a lot of time for what they might see as trivial? In MY case Dr. Burrowes doesn't do bloodwor****il 8 month checkup unless you have some really severe symptoms. His opinion is...and I can also say the PA at my PCP also said, "Your body has supply of B12 to pull from, a storage tank of sorts"...said, "It takes a good while for someone to become B12 deficient." My trouble with changing is not knowing *****ally knows anything about treating gastric bypass patients if, indeed, we need a different approach to treatment. I expect many of us feel that way. Now, having said that...it may be that having low iron is very different from B12?? I don't have a clue. For me personally, now that I'm over my fever, etc. from sinus, Im feeling pretty froggy. I've also noted my hormones are kicking in again...some hot flashes, etc. that I thought I was through with. How wonderful. *eyeroll*. Ive thought maybe some of the fatigue is hormonal, WHO KNOWS??? I certainly know you're antsy about it. I would be as well. I know it's not a biggie, but we'll all feel ALL BETTER once all is tested and said and DONE. I'll keep you in my prayers. I promise.

Hey, Joyce, We ARE kindred spirits! Maybe you could call your insurance company for names of PCPs who deal with WLS patients. Maybe ask on here? I love mine, but I think she is too far away for you. I don't want you to suffer until you are at eight months...know what I mean? I still want B12 shots even if it ends up just being the iron. The two times that I have had them, I felt better instantly! I have wondered about the hormone thing too! LOL Thank you for the prayers. I WANT you to get checked out too!!! Hugs, Becky

Hey, Becky! Prayers coming your way right now! It sounds like you just need a little 'tweaking' on your supplements, perhaps?!?! I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's that simple. You bring up a good point, about the relationship with the Primary Care. I need to see mine next week for surgery clearance (for Ins. reasons)---and I'm going to speak to him about who will keep up with my labs and can I come to him for that when necessary. With my MS, it's super important for my levels to be good--if I low in b-12 OR iron, I can get so washed out that I'll be in the floor! Don't want that!!! ha! Keep your chin up--you're on your way to having answers and solutions! Hugs! Michelle

Thanks, Michelle! How smart to go ahead and get the aftercare part settled! You go, Girl!!! After other surgeries, I have always gone back to my PCP. I was uneasy because of the possible effects of WLS this time. I am very happy that Dr. Bakshi wants to take on the responsibility. She's treated me for everything from a failed gall bladder to pink eye. She knows me well. Since your PCP sees you for your other health issues, seems like he or she is a logical choice. Hugs, Becky

I hate that you are feeling so tired! However, it is nice to know when they can find out the cause because at least they know what to fix! Prayers and blessing coming your way.
