My surgery date is March 1st and I'm so happy.. but my questions is how long did you take off from work.. My Dr. wants me to take the full 6 weeks that I get... I have heard so many different things.. The ones that took only a few weeks wish they had taken longer and the ones that did take 6 weeks where glad they took it but got bored at home.. Because it is major surgery I wanted to take the 6 weeks, and cuz when I return to work they will be able to tell that I have lost some weight.. Brandy

Hey Brandy, In my opinion, the full six weeks will give you a chance to get use to eating the way you need and let you have some kind of set pattern figured out so you might not get sick if you eat at work. Like I said just my opinion. Congratulations on your upcoming date. Ler us know if you need anything. Hugs, Debra =^..^=

Hi Brandy, I think it would depend on the type of work that you do and if you have the surgery lap or open. I would plan on the 6 weeks so that you have the coverage and then you can play it by ear as to when you will return. Some people experience a loss of energy for that first 2 -3 weeks. Also check with your dr about having to stay in town following surgery. A friend came into Atlanta from Athens to have surgery and she was required to stay in town for 10 days following surgery. I was not working at the time I had surgery and I had lap. Good luck with your upcoming surgery! Marie

Hi Brandy. Congratulations on getting your surgery date! I just had surgery (open RNY) 12 days ago, and I had the same question as you. I decided to take the full 6 weeks, since my firm will pay full salary for that time and I will not be able to take another vacation for many months. I figured that even if I feel like returning earlier, I could use the last few weeks to just be "on vacation" and see some things around Georgia that I have never seen (just lived here for 5 years). You can always change your mind and go back earlier if you decide to and you're feeling great. Just be sure you don't go back too early. No matter what kind of work you do, spending 8 hours at even an easy job is harder than 8 hours of relaxing around the house, and you could wear yourself out if you go back too quickly. Blessings on your decision, Cheryl

Hi. I had my surgery on Jan 17 so I am 3 weeks out. I started back to work last Monday Jan 31 but only 1/2 days for the first few days and then pretty much back to full time. I have a desk job so it isn't too bad. I am still working on getting my energy back and my thoughts are the faster you get back into a normal routine the better but that's just me. Just listen to your body and do whatever it tells you to do. Best of luck! ~Bonnie
