feeling depressed
I am really feeling depressed today. My mom is here staying with me for the weekend and she is going home tomorrow morning. It seems no matter what I do it isn't right. If I am laying down she tells me to get up, if I am up too much she tells me I am over doing it. She told me the sugar free pudding I bought was full a "junk" and I shouldn't be eating it. Then I went to take my prozac and she tells me that she thinks I am taking too much medication and need to just detox from everything I am on. I feel like I can't win with her! All the feelings of never being good enough seem to be manifesting today.
On top of that I have had oatmeal, and two 20gram protein shakes and am still not feeling satisfied. Also, I have not lost one single pound since surgery on Wednesday.
I feel like running away! Is any of this normal?
Hi, Kimberly, What ever you do, don't stop taking your Prozac. It is very normal to go through depression right now and during the next few weeks. In fact, one of my doctor's asked me to start Prozac before surgery because of my history of clinical depression. You are going to be going through a bit of a grieving process right now if you are as fond of food as I am. Be sure to drink all of your water. The junk in the sugar free jello is not going to be enough to hurt you, and for me, it was one of my small treats for myself in the early days. There's a sugar free chocolate pudding that I used (with the initials K and K or C and C). I also LOVED the Dole fruit bars. Mashed potatoes (instant) really satisfied me in the early days. The "Soup at hand" Campbell's brand were another staple. Warm brothes might be a more satisfying choice too. Can you tell I don't cook? Sounds like your mother is just worried about you. If I were you, I would smile ever so sweetly, and ignore her. Is your mother's name "Faye"? Have you still got some pain medicine? (just kidding) I think by tomorrow you will be ready to be more independent!!!
Hugs,
Becky
Kimberly,
I havent been through the surgery but as far as over bearing family members, I know how you feel. My mother used to be the same way but since she is terminally ill, she knows the other side of the coin. I am with the others, just smile and let her give all the advice she wants, you only have one mom no matter how bad she can be sometimes. She truly is trying to help, just give her time. She will see that you will make progress eventually and then she will be proud. And yes.....KEEP TAKING THE PROZAC...LOL.

Hey!! I am sorry things are not going so great right now. If you need to call me my number is 770-443-8549. Friday I felt terrible. Yesterday I felt a little better but not great. Today I got up and started washing clothes and hanging the washed clothes in the closet!! I feel pretty good right now. Just hang on.
As for the prozac--do not stop taking it. Dr Santavicca (the psychiatrist) and my ob-gyn both stressed that I continue to take my Celexa after surgery. In fact, Dr. Santavicca said I may even want to up the dosage.
Eat that pudding. I ate about half a container of it yesterday, and it is one of the best things I have eaten. I also heated about a forth of a can of fat free cream of chicken soup with some milk last night and it was yummy! I never liked fat free before, but that was good. I ate some light yogart for b-fast this morning and tolerated it well. At this point, I say if we can tolerate it, we might as well eat it. It's not like we are eating a lot to start with. Just smile and say-I am following Doctors orders, mom. I was there with you. Amanda said you could eat the pudding!!!
Call me if you need me.

Kimberly,
I hope that you are feeling better gal! I had a major melt down 3 days after surgery. I liken it to the morphine letdown and probably some hormones thrown into the equation. Having someone criticize your every move is not a good thing, especially so soon after surgery. Hang on til tomorrow gal. I'm sure you'll feel much better after she is gone and you've had a little time to adjust to your new life.
Keep taking the meds and eat that pudding. That is part of your diet and whether or not your Mother understands you know what you need to do.
Find comfort in the fact that your Mother goes home tomorrow, each day will get better, and you have the love and support of your GA board family. We are here cheering you on gal.
Hugs,
Tonya
Hi Kimberly!
It sounds like you're doing really well for just having had major surgery! You're up and around (from what you said), you're eating some things that are staying down and your *****y enough to feel annoyed with the current situation. Hang in there! I think you're doing great!!!!
Just grin and bear it for today-tomorrow you'll be on your own and can do as you please without the advice. I'm sure she's been worried to death about this whole surgery thing--and is just trying to take care of you best as she can. Hug her, tell her you love her and send her home tomorrow with a kiss.
I wouldn't worry about the weight loss right now-it's going to come off. Chances are, you're still retaining fluid from surgery. It can take a while for that to wear off. Plus, your body will probably try to hang on to what it's got for a few days as it realizes you're not taking in much. It'll have to give up and get into the reserves soon--and the weight will start to drop like a rock.
I'm so glad you're home and doing well--keep those of us who are still waiting our turn updated. I hang onto every word you new post-ops say--cuz hopefully I'll be there eventually!
Congrats and good luck!!!
Michelle
I'm so sorry you are feeling bad girl. Things are rough right now. I am taking my Zoloft. And have no plans on stopping. On the flipside, I don't want anything. My boyfriend has forced me to get things down. Food stinks to me. Hope that stays the same! LOL. Mt sign in on yahoo is tonyameashellw Add me and we can chat. I will be on when pain tolerates. Open sucks. LOL Take care and hold your head high. Your mom is only trying to help. She doesn't know what to tell you so she is telling you the only thing she knows. Thank God for her. Hi Kimberly,
My name is Martha and I am from Jackson, Ga. I had surgery on Friday Feb. 4 so it's been 4 days today. I tell you so far it is not easy - all you have to do and it seems you also think what have I done. But everyone says this passes so I have to hope that it does. I know alot of people who have had this and they basically say the first couple of weeks are rough then things go smooth. I have to believe that because I don't believe people would have this done if if didn't get better. I know my life will be better once I get the weight off. If you want to talk please feel free to email me and I will send you my phone number.
Hugs,
Martha
P.s. I have a grown daughter and mother's can't help it you know they think they are always right just grin and bear it. she wants only the best for you and she worries.
Well,
Its ok to get down, had my surgery Oct 24, 04. Did not see any weight loss until 3 weeks later. My daughter was and still is watching what I eat sometimes and she states I'm either eating to much, etc. I tell her I know what I'm doing and that I am aware of what I can and cannot eat. Your body will tell you if you're over doing it. It might upset your mother if you say something, and I'm a 50 year old mom, tell her to lighten up. You know what you're doing. As for the prozac you have to take it, you cannot get off an anti-depressant without talking to your doctor, it can cause a lot issues such as depression. I do not weight my self every day, I weight myself once a week. I have lost 63lbs since surgery and 91lbs since I started this adventure. Hang in there, you're smart, you had the surgery right and with Moms you never win, ask my 24 & 27 year old daughter, they will tell you. Just make sure you get your protein and fluids in. If I can do it I! I know you can! Best wishes, we all love you, you have support here!
