I received the following statement from a friend I met at my DRS. office. Well I have found out some disturbing news. As of March 1st, no insurance company will cover any Bariatric Surgery. They are saying that it is cosmetic and some people are trying to sue their insurance company. Does anyone know about this? Is this maybe her insurance company? We live in Georgia

it is probably her particular company though many are now saying that you have to have the rider on your policy for it to cover the surgery

As of January 1, 2005, my insurance First Health is no longer covering Bariatric Surgery. Hence the reason I tried to rush everything thru so I could have my surgery before the end of last year. It is my understanding that alot of insurance companies are doing this. Susan Lap RNY 12-1-04 285-236-155 (-49)

I know BCBS is stopping coverage in Georgia. The exact date depends on when your company renews their policies.... Kelle

Has anyone heard anything about Cigna? I think I have until the last day of March to get approved, our policy renews April 1st. Keep your fingers crossed for me. Tammy Gunter

I have cigna and my policy runs from July 1 through June 30. I am still in midyear and they are telling me that they are not going to cover. We'll see though how everything falls. Dr. Duncans office had everything of mine to send off for approval on January 14th. After trying and trying to get them to fax over they say they faxed on January 28. Cigna has no fax. So go figure....someone ain't telling the truth. Good luck Nalani
