WHY AM I SO EMOTIONAL?

Hey Ga Board, I need help. Someone please tell me how to get through today and tomorrow. I am all nerves. The least little thing sets me off. And if that weren't enough, my dad called this morning begging me not to go through with this surgery. I tried very patiently to explain to him that I am going to be 100% ok. And 100% better after the surgery. Everyone he tells about my surgery tries to fill his head full of crapola. I am so anxious that I didn't sleep a wink last night. Now, I'm sleepy and tired. I might try to take a nap later on, but I kinda doubt it, as I am a neat freak and I'm gonna scrub my house from top to bottom so when I come home it will be clean. If any of you have any suggestions on how I can deal with these next two days, I am all ears. Thanks so much!!! Tonya Waters

Tonya, I can so relate to the feelings you are having. I'm sure most of us felt the same way. I found that praying helped soothe my nerves. I also got the nesting syndrome and cleaned like crazy also. I will say a prayer for you that the Lord will soothe your nerves. Hugs, Tonya

Hang in there Tonya. I told very few people prior to my surgery that I was having it just because I didn't want to deal with the negativity. I told only those few important people who are very close to me. The main thing is that you are comfortable with your decision because it's your body that will be affected. Staying busy is good. It will be here and over with before you know it. Now that I am 5 months post op I find myself telling everyone and if they disagree I could care less! LOL Funny how that changes over time. Today I am a much stronger persone and much healthier and confident. Maybe take some time just for yourself to do something you enjoy- some quiet time to calm yourself. Best of luck! Tracy

Tonya, The best advice that I can give you is to keep busy. Go through all of your pre op paperwork, go through you hospital bag, make sure you have books, magazines, all the stuff you will need for the hospital...Go through you purse, clean it out. Did you already shop for the stuff that you will need for after you get home? Cleaning the house is a GREAT idea, that way you won't have to worry about that. Wash all of the bedding, that takes a while. I don't have any words of wisdom for you on getting through your nerves..Just keep in mind why you are doing this, and what you are going to get out of having this surgery. It is not going to be easy, you are having major surgery, and the next few weeks will problably be pretty awful. Having said that, it will get better, better than you ever dreamed it could be. As far as your father, he is just worried about you. It kinda reminds me of when I was pregnant, and all you heard was horror stories of giving birth. Now everyone must tell you about all of the horror stories of having Gastric Bypass. There are complications, and you need to prepare yourself mentally for them in case they do happen, just like you prepared yourself for complicatons when you had your babies..But the most important thing that I can tell you to do, is to go into that hospital with a positive attitude...You will be fine, and you have all of my prayers.. Being emotional before going through something life changing is natural! We all go through it...I wasn't so much emotional (crying, going off on my family) as I was anxious. I cleaned everything and went through all my old magazines, did some decoupage, watched a Lifetime movie, and slept. I think that when I am emotional, I sleep. So clean, pray, and get some rest! YOU WILL BE 100 % GREAT!!!! ~Nicole

HI! TRY DEALING WITH THE POSITIVE SIDE AS WHAT THIS SURGERY CAN DO FOR YOU, BELIEVE ME, ITS NOT EASY. I AM NOW 3 MONTHS OUT, LOST 60LBS SINCE SURGERY, 95LBS SINCE I STARTED MY JOURNEY, AND I WOULD DO IT AGAIN IN A HEART BEAT. JUST MAKE SURE YOU DON'T WEAR YOURSELF DOWN BEFORE YOUR SURGERY, REMEMBER YOU'LL HAVE TO GET UP EARLY AND GET TO THE HOSPITAL EARLY AND BEFORE YOU KNOW IT ITS OVERWITH AND YOU ARE ON THE OTHER SIDE. HANG IN THERE, IN MY PRAYERS! KI

I wanted to thank each of you for the help. I have been busy all day. Since my bedroom is where I will spend the majority of the next few weeks or so I cleaned it from top to bottom. Dusted, washed the bedding, vacuumed, washed the walls, etc. So, it's ready. I think tomorrow I will do the same to the kitchen. You all are blessings from above. I really appreciate the prayers and well wishes. They mean so much to me. Love ya all, Tonya Waters

I am right there with you sister! My surgery is Wednesay February 2nd and I found that staying busy keeps my mind off things but just like you I can get emotional easily. I went to see my chirpractors today and he and his wife hugged me told me they would be praying for me and would come and adjust me at home if I need it. It was just a simple thing but I realized I wont see them again before surgery. They have watched me struggle with my weight for so long that it brought tears to my eyes. Try to put on some upbeat music and keep all your thoughts positive. There are Tons more success stories than not.
