Bump in the road!!!

Hit a big bump in the WLS road today. Ugh! The cardiologist called --said my stress test wasn't 'normal'. He said it might be a false positive--or could be something that needs attention. Anyhow--the only way they'll know is to do a heart cath. This was NOT in my plan! I have to see him on Mon.--they will schedule the heart cath at that time...probably will be next week, though. When I asked what this meant for my WLS, he said he couldn't say. He said they'd have to cross that bridge when they see what my heart is like. Please pray for me--I'm a bundle of nerves. Michelle

Hi Michelle, A false positive happens quite frequently with women and stress tests. I am not sure which one you had but I had the DIMPS test and had to have a heart cath also. My cardio dr (who i had been seeing before trying to get wls) explained that often times the breast gives a shadow and a false reading but he wanted to be 100 % sure before he gave clearance for my surgery. I had had a bout of congestive heart failure with bi-lateral pneumonia 2 1/2 years prior to trying to have wls. Fortunately my hear cath was scheduled for the next morning and all turned out well. The doc told me I had the heart of a 25 year old! I have not updated my profile in quite some time but I think my heart cath experience is there. I have to talked to several other people that have had to have this done and gone on to have wls. I know it is hard but try not to worry to much. Feel free to email me if you want to talk about it further. Marie laprny, 12/02/03 Dr Hart -135 lbs since surgery -294 lbs from highest weight (539 11/15/01)

Thank you so much for sharing that with me. I sorta fell apart this morning when my cardio called me. I wasn't expecting anything like this at all--and it threw me for a loop. My mom had a stress test come back abnormal, too. She went thru the whole heart cath thing-and it was perfectly normal, also. I'll HOPE and PRAY it works as well for me. I had the nuclear stress test-and my ekg was normal-as was the part on the treadmill. It was the pics from the gamma-cam that showed something that could possibly be a blockage. I'm 39 years old, never smoked, no other health issues (other than obesity--a big issue, I know--but the only one I have). I have had no real symptoms that I can put my finger on. I'm hoping this is nothing but a false positive and I can move forward from it quickly. If it is more than that, then I'll just be glad we found it in routine testing rather than in the form of a heart attack at some point. Thanks again--I'll think of your story when I go for the appt!!!!! (which is probably Tues or Wed---they'll let me know on Mon.) Hugs! Michelle

Hey girlie, Don't be sad, I will pray for you while you are going to the dr. You BETTER let me know when you are having the heart cath and what you find out. I did like what Marie said about the false positives with women..and I can see where that would hold true being from the medical field. YOu know some of us women were bless really well and that could have shadowed it. Anway, please let me know what happens. Love ya, D'Lynn

Oh Michelle! I'm so sorry! I know this was totally unexpected! I can really relate to what you're going through! My last EKG was "abnormal" so I don't know what the stress test will reveal. That is, if I will even be allowed to take one! Anyway, dear heart, I will keep you in my prayers! Please post often no matter what! We are all here for you and are prayerful that everything will work out in your favor, whatever that happens to be! Take care of yourself, Cheryl G.
