Well if you have not been to the Emory Dunwoody Medical Center, you need to see their Bariatric Unit. I went today for my 1st round of tests for the workup for Dr Hart. Boy are they thorough! I believe I had 12 + tubes of blood taken from me 1st thing that morning. Well Rosia is a doll...I can honestly say she didn't hurt me at all. Next came all the XRays! Had to get stuck 2 times there...has to do with the hydration thing because my veins ran and blew like the wind. After all the wonderful sticking, I had to drink the icky barium for the upper GI series...and they say dont burp...yeah right! The next part, although it was the one I dreaded the most, was the best. The pulmonary testing. Gary, the Resp Therapy Supervisor, was absolutely wonderful. Not only was he personable and funny, the ABG was not as bad as I thought. I had my self all psyched up for the pain, and it wasnt as bad as an IV, which I have to have tomorrow...woohoo. Well now that I have bored you...here is the best part. Gary wanted to know if I had seen the Bariatric Unit, when I said no, he was ecstatic...."Come on and let me show you!" were his exact words. The unit is awesome. The wards are wood floored and wood walls....the rooms are gigantic, and the bathroom is awsome...Double shower heads, extremely large seating area, and heated towel rack....man, you gotta see it if you have to go back to EDMC for anything before you decide which hospital to have your surgery done at. Also, Gary tells me that the nurses are hand picked by the bariatric MDs, and if they dont' like them or they have problems with them, they don't work up there anymore...from what I hear, the nurses are awesome....anyway, just rambling because I had such a good experience with them. WOW! Sounds like you had a great experience up at Emory. I had heard some not so nice things about it and I am so relieved because I believe thats where I will end up having my surgery. I was really nervous about some of the preops, including the ABG so I'm glad to hear thats not so bad D'Lynn, can you email me Dr. Hart's phone number and tell me if he has a web site? I would really appreciate it. Good Luck hon!! My prayers will be with you Barb

I had my surgery there on Dec 1st and was quite impressed. All of the nurses were very good and understanding. I never heard a cross word from any of them. They were always very willing to help with anything I needed. I never had to wait on one of them either. When I called for a nurse, she was right there. And the facility was superb. I would highly recommend EDMC to anyone. They are fantastic. And that shower room is wonderful!!!!! Susan Lap RNY 12-1-04 285-242-155 (-43)
