Scales Question...

I am having an issue with something that the Bariatrics Caseworker at the hospital told me today. She said, "I wouldn't suggest getting on a scale unless you are at the doctor's office. You should only weigh at the 2 week, 1 month, 3 month, and 6 month intervals. Let it be a surprise." But what am I supposed to do when curiosity gets the better of me? Has anyone else heard this theory of only weighing at the doctor's office?

I do not own a scale - nor do I intend on purchasing one. There ARE (evil) scales everywhere though. Of course I work in a place that has a warehouse and I can check my weight there - if I wanted to. I also am a Gym fanatic and weigh myself there about once a month. I know my body is changing becasue of the way my clothes fit me. It's really much more rewarding to me to get rid of clothes than to check my weight!!! My "official" weight loss at the doctors office is -97 lbs...that was almost 4 months ago!!! What I've weighed myself to be I'm down 145 lbs..... I've heard of this - mostly because I don't own a scale....LOL I don't think there's anything wrong with having a scale - but I'd become obsessed with it if I had one!

Nicole, I am the last person who needs to post to this... I am a SCALE-A-HOLIC!!! I got to the point of weighing in 3x plus a day. I was one of those that Dr. Ganz spoke of at the convention. Alot of the time my mood was represented by what number I saw. My husband took it way! and I will not weigh until my birthday in Feb. He said that will be one of my presents. AND ya know he is right ([please don't tell him that}) IT will be great to get on the scale and know that I have lost weight. I eat based upon what I feel and that makes me a happier person, not on what the scale says. My surgeon told me to throw it away and only weigh when I got to his office. That is about what you posted for weigh ins. So the advice is right on... To help you as you lose weight, you might think about measuring for inches. That was really cool to watch as you shrunk. Take them weekly and keep a journal. That would motivate me. Hope my advice of NOT FOLLOWING me helps. Lynn

Hi Nicole, I was told the samething by the Bariartics Caseworker from Redmond Hospital and I'm following the rule. I had my DH hide the scale so I wouldn't be inclined to weigh daily. Let your clothes be your guide on how well you are losing. Don't focus on the numbers. Think Positive! Weighing alot can start to play on the mind. I noticed we live near each other. How are you tolerating the pureed food? I returned to work on Monday-24th, 3 weeks after having surgery. I'm doing very well. I had my 1st post op appointment with Dr. Scott and Thursday-20th and it went very well. I told Dr. Scott I love my new stomach! Support Group meeting is scheduled February 7, 2005-6:00 until 7:00pm at Mt. Berry Mall in the Floyd Medical Center Room. I hope to see you there. Tammie G. new loser
