I am scheduled for my tests on Tuesday and Wednesday next week. Has anyone used the Emory Dunwoody HOspital for the tests? Was just wondering how the hospital was. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks, D'Lynn

Hi D'Lynn, I had all my pre-op testing and surgery at Emory Dunwoody Hospital. It is a very small hospital, so you get personal attention. The staff there is wonderful and most of them have been there for many years. You will go in the front door and to the left, take a number, and they'll call you back pretty quickly. I sat there for maybe 10 minutes. They were very friendly and after you answered all their questions they'll send you upstairs. I had to go in a room go in a small room and fill out some more papers I believe. Then they call you back to get vitals and draw blood. Then they'll send you down the hall for xrays I believe and then you are free to go. I think I was there for a total of 2 hours. It wouldn't have taken that long, but I was a tough stick. I don't have that trouble now that I've lost the weight. By the way, if you are having your surgery there you need to ask for one of Byrd's rooms. She's a fabulous nurse. They are all great, but she's one of those people you'll remember for a lifetime. Good Luck, Christie

Thanks Christie, Who did your surgery? I have to have the lab work, x-ray, and lung tests...yuckie..that is what I am dreading. I have only had one ABG in my lifetime and am not looking forward to that part. My doctor is Dr Hart and I love him and his staff. I have worked in the small hospitals and am kind of partial to them. I believe that will be my choice as well. D'Lynn

Hey D'Lynn! I to have my testing done mon/tues of this coming week--also at Emory/Dunwoody. I'm concerned about the ABG--never had one drawn, but heard they hurt!!! They didn't specifically SAY I'd have one done--did they tell you it's part of their 'normal' lab? They just told me I'd have "normal Lab work" along with a chest x-ray and an upper GI. I go for a stress test on Tues. Maybe we'll see each other there!! Michelle

Michelle, Try not to worry yourself about the ABG. While it does hurt some, it really isn't that bad. I have had a few drawn on myself, and found them to hurt more a few hours later than during the actual stick. Now, as a Respiratory Therapist, and one who has drawn alot of ABG's on people in my career, here is my best advice. When the person who comes to draw it, try to relax, breathe normal, and don't freak too much. Unfortunately if you get really nervous and begin to hyerventilate and such, it can skew your results. You'd hate to have to go back for another one, or have it delay things for you. Just know that as long as your still, the person drawing it can get it done and you'll be over with it quickly. The ABG won't be anything compared to the surgery. And even that doesn't last for long..... Good Luck to you!!! Susan Lap RNY 12-1-04 285-244-155 (-41)

Hey D'Lynn, Dr. JK Champion was my surgeon. I really don't remember having any tests on the lungs. I guess they all just kinda blended together. My surgery was the day after my tests so I had a million things running through my mind that day. Christie

Christie, YOu look fabulous! I have read your profile and I feel much the same way you did in the beginning. I have researched and researched having this surgery. I wanted it done yesterday, but the good thing is I will have all my tests and evals done and ready for submission hopefully by the first of Feburary. I am so excited for you ..hang in there...you will fall back into your good habits instead of the bad ones. I have to get motivated to exercise..that is my weakness. D'Lynn

I had my pre-op testing/surgery done at Emory-Dunwoody as well. They are fantastic. I was very well pleased with every aspect of the hospital. I had already had much of my labwork done in advance, but some had already gone over 30 days so I had to have some of it redone. To me, what was great about Emory-Dunwoody, was that everything done there is done thru the Atlanta Bariatric Center (Their wing for WLS patients.) When you go in, even the chairs are accommodating. Everything I saw was geared towards patients of our 'size'. Having worked in the medical field for the last 25 yrs, I can tell you that is a rarity. I was pleasantly pleased and surprised. I would recommend Emory-Dunwoody to anyone who needs to choose a hospital. I hear they call it 'The Ritz' of hospitals. I understand why now. Susan Lap RNY 12-1-04 285-244-155 (-41)
