Anxious/Scared about Insurance
Hey everyone,
I'm relatively new to posting a message, but I usually check out the message board everyday. I am very close to finding out whether or not my insurance will cover my surgery. I'm getting a little scared that the insurance won't do it based on one thing....documentation of weight loss history. I haven't been to Jenny Craig, TOPS, Weigh****chers etc. But I have tried several, several times to lose weight on my own, my PCP at least on a couple of occasions prescribed weight loss drugs for me (Meridia and Xenical) I have also had nutritional counceling and took part for a good while in a diabetic aerobic exercise class.....this info was today faxed to my insurance company because they wanted to see more on my attempts at weight loss. I'm just scared that this will not be enough...Heck, it seems to me a prerequesit to weight loss surgery is taking part in nationally recognized weight loss programs like I mentioned. Does it not matter that I'm morbidly obese, have hypertension, have hypothyroidism, have sleep apnea and have diabetes? This just really worries me, I just pray pray pray "Guardian" will approve me....I ask for your prayers too, and any suggestions or words of wisdom you have to offer....Thanks.
Kelly
I too was worried just like you, Ive never taken a weight loss program, heck I had only tried 6 months of xencial with my pcp. I dont have any health problems beside being fat.. the only things I had was Gerds and sore knees, I was approved. Im 5'7 and when I did surgery I was 273 pounds. So I guess that was good enough for my insurance and I have bcbs highmark. hang in there , chin up.. you can always appeal if they say no.. jen
