Hey ga board, I called my surgeons coordinator yesterday and today. Finally found out that I go on Monday to see my surgeon. I was told that we will go over all the tests results and I will get my surgery date. I am so excited. I am starting to get a little nervous now. This is really going to happen for me. I am not in the least bit scared of the actual surgery. I am scared of something however. I have had two experiences with being put under. Once when I had my son by C-section. I woke up before they wanted me to. It was only for a few seconds, but it did happen. Then last year I had to have a fistula removed. They put me under, and then I woke up. But they couldnt see it. I could feel them prepping me. I could not open my eyes. or move anything but my fingers. Thank God they saw that. And put me back under. I'm just scared that it might happen this time and they won't know it at all. Please everyone pray for me. I need it so much. I will let ya'll know when I get home Monday about my date. Take care!!! Love ya'll, Tonya Waters

You go girl! Let us know when it is. Make sure you tell your doc about those two times waking up. They can monitor you closer and keep a check for that. Keep reminding them. Even on the day of your surgery. I am so happy for you. I will be there if I can. Where did you say it was going to be? I forgot. I have no brain. Hugs and Love, Debra =^..^=

I agree with Debra... tell anybody and everybody you come across in this process. If your not sure if you have already told someone, tell them again anyway. In your pre-op room, and when they roll you in to the OR room, and you are scooting from one bed to the OR table. I can empathize with you.... Last week I had to go to surgery for a kidney stone. I remember them pushing my IV sedation and starting to feel sleepy. I told them all night night. I guess they thought I was out. Next thing I remember is that my throat was starting to shut down on me and I couldn't get a breath. They had started also pushing the paralytic and I couldn't tell them anything. Now it only lasted about 10-15 seconds, and I was trying to tell them with all my might, but they just kept telling me to take some deep breaths, and shoving that anesthesia mask over my face. I have had many surgeries and only once every started waking up be for they were done. When I tried to pull out my ET tube (the breathing tube), they realized it and knocked me back out. All I remember about that was them telling me to leave that tube alone. I have to go back this friday, back to the OR for them to remove my stent. I have every intention of showing my fat white A$$, and giving VERY EXPLICIT INSTRUCTIONS on what they need to do this time, and they had best make sure I am totally out first this time. Having worked in the medical field for the last 25 years has made me very aware of what my patient rights are. And it has taught me to take ownership for my medical care when I need it. I may know more than alot of folks who don't work in the medical field, but there is still alot I don't know. I ask lots of very direct and blunt questions. I knida figure.... as much as I am paying these folks, they need to give me as much time as I need. I know I give ALL my patients alot of TLC, and they are very appreciative of it. Good Luck with your surgery.... let them all know and you will be just fine! Susan Lap RNY 12-1-04 285-247-155 (-38)

Hey Tonya: I am going to Emory on Tuesday to see my doctor and hopefully get a date too. Are you having your surgery at Crawford or at Emory? Our dates should be pretty close together I would think? Keep me posted about your progress and I will try to keep you posted as well. Congrats! Kelly S
