hey everyone well I saw the dr today, and well I didnt get my staples out and I didnt get my drainage tube out either. He told me that I need to wait longer. He also said that there wasnt much he could do for the shoulder pain, that it is trapped c2o that is in my body from surgery, all i can do it keep passing gas and burping until I get all the air out. What fun!! So I just get to go along with this pain... makes me just want to cry.. the liquid lortab is not helping it at all.. I cant even sleep, I might have slept 10 hours since I have been home on sunday. I go back to see the nurses on Friday so they can look at my wounds and say whether or not I can have the drain and staples out, but I might still have to wait till Monday.. So I still cant take a shower until this thing comes out .. I feel so gross... how long did some of you have to wait to get your staples and drainage tubes out. Jen

Jennifer, I am so sorry that you are feeling so bad. I must tell you that I had my staples in for 2 weeks, but I had my drainage tubes at at day 3. We are all so different, and our bodies all react so different when they are put through a trauma. ( surgery is a trauma to the body) I could tell you that I know how you feel, we all do, but that really isn't going to make you feel much better. I know that me telling you that you need to give it some time and that it will get better is of little or no help to you now, when now is when you are in so much pain. When I had my surgery, my roomate had the same problem that you are having with your shoulder, while I can't imagine the pain, I do know how miserable she was. The one thing that seemed to help her was to walk, although while she was walking it was killing her, after she did it she felt a little better. I hope that anything I have said has helped, and I hope that with each passing day, you get better! Cathy

Hey Jennifer, Sorry you didn't get the staples and drain out yet. And I know the shoulder pain is bad. Know that once the drain is pulled that you will start to have a miraculous recovery. It was so miserable with the drain in. When I went to the doctor to have it removed, I heard through the walls (Yes, I know I am nosey) my doctor tell another patient that she was still having too much drainage to remove her drain. And I was having more than her. I was nearly in tears when the doctor finally came in. I told him he was gonna make me have a bad day by not pulling mine because of the drainage. He told me, no, mine was in for a different reason than the other patient and mine was coming out. That was at 6 days. After that drain came out within 24 hours I felt like a new woman. Now I didn't have any staples or stitches. My doctor uses the surgical glue stuff and only places steri-strips. But I was allowed to shower at the hospital before I left, and also to shower at home, just keeping my back to the shower most of the time only turning long enough to wash the soapsuds off. It felt better on my back anyway. Give it a couple of more days, walk as much as you can, and know that when that drain comes out you will start feeling alot better.
