Has Anyone....
Has anyone here ever been so tired you can't see straight? Can't think right? Have a severe headache? Well for the last three nights this has been me. I went to a paramedic last night and my BP was 150 over 100. So I came home and went to bed. I started feeling that way again this eveing and went to another paramedic since we were somewhere else. My BP was 170 over 100. He was asking all kinds of questions and then asked he could check my blood sugar. I told him to go for it. It was 72! He made me drink some real sweet Kool-Aid. After about 30 minutes I was feeling better. I have been avoiding sugar because I didn't want to get sick. Now I am going to have to take the chance at getting sick to keep my sugar up. Has anyone else had this happen? I have started my seventh month out. Thank you in advance.

Debra,
In my past life (before babies) I was an EMT, and a Medical Assistant that worked for an Internal Medicine doctor, I also had a father who died at age 58 from complications of Diabetes. I have several family members with Diabetes and I myself had Gestational with both pregnancies. My first question to you would be, were you a Diabetic before you had your surgery? The reason that I am asking you this is because a Blood Sugar level of 72 is actually in the normal range. I would not have advised you to take the Kool Aid at all. If you have a low blood sugar level I would tell you to drink some OJ, but even better would be to have some crackers with Peanut Butter or some lean meat. The Peanut Butter or the meat will also raise your blood sugar level, but unlike the Kool aid, it will keep your level more stable, when you use something with a high sugar content it will raise your level, but then you run the risk of having your blood sugar drop very fast after the sugar wears off. IMHO, the reason for you feeling so poorly and having the headaches was your blood pressure, it is quite high and you need to monitor this closely. I can't tell you exactly why you started to feel better after the Kool-aid, again a Blood Sugar level of 72 is quite normal. I hope that I have helped you, and please don't take anything I say as medical fact as I am not a licensed medicl professional any more, but if you were in my family, this is what I would say to you! Please go to your PCP, if your blood pressure stays that high!
Take Care,
Cathy
Cathy,
I have to strongly disagree with what you wrote. I am a diabetic and a reading of 72 is low enough that it would have me with shakey hands, feeling weak and sick to my stomach. I was told by my local diabetic clinic (paperwork from the ADA) and a registered nurse who has been diabetic all her life that normal is 80 to 120. For me that kind of headache is normally caused from having my blood sugar go too high then fall suddenly. They are called rebound headaches.
I do agree that Debra's blood pressure was high and could very well have been the cause of the way she has been feeling.

Debbie,
Thanks for the info, that was why my first question to her was, is she a Diabetic. For those of us that aren't 72 is okay. Is it your husband that is having surgery? I didn't know if it was, does he have a surgery support page to sign? If not, GIve me his first name and I will include him in my prayers, Carol Godfrey is having her surgery that same day.
