Hello everyone, I am trying to get prepared for surgery. Can someone tell me what I will need after surgery? I have so far bought chewable children vitiamins and I also bought some gas x and the protein mix. Anything else I need? Also, I have a problem with my joints and I normally take glusomine (i think that's how you spell it.) have anyone taken the joint juice right after surgery? Thanks for your answers Denise

Hi Denise, I'm getting ready too. Although I'm still waiting on insurance approval. Would the children's vitamins be enough dosage for you? I bought a multi vitamine, adult dosage (citrus) that's chewable as well (but I suck on it). I don't have a problem with my joints so I can't help you there. I did buy a baby sippy cup. I was told to bring it to the hospital because when I drink my liquids, drinking from the sippy cup will give me just enough to swallow without taking my normal swallows (smaller sips). I didn't think about the gas x. I did purchase some baby food. It looks like it would be just enough (2 oz's) it's already pured. Turkey w/ gravy and Chicken w/ gravy....(it has protein in it). Remember you can have all the sugar free jello and popsicles you want. I also purchased some flavored water (Fruit H20) is the name. There's no carbination in it. I'm already used to drinking the Wylers sugar free Cherry and Raspberry drinks...tastes like the real thing! Let me know if you think of anything else...I could use some Ideas myself!! Kelly

Kelly, Thanks for the ideas, I got some sugar free popsicles today they were on sale. I didn't think about the jello and the sippy cup, I will put them on my list. Baby food....I didn't think of that either. Thanks Denise

I too got childrens chewables (dr said to take two), I also got a liquid b-complex, and iron and b-12.I also too got baby food, and protein mix. You might want a scale if you dont already have one. You will want a measuring cup also, and a baby spoon for eating. Lets you take in just a little at a time. I too am getting ready for surgery on Friday. and on a personal note, I dont know how much you weight or what type surgery you are having but I have been told by some ladies who had surgery, they said they had to use a long wood spoon and put tissue on it and use it to wipe when peeing, and have baby wipes for well you know. Since you are so sore it might be hard to do those things. Im also looking into getting a juicer machine too. That way I know that I get all my veggies and fruits. I also got unsweet applesauce, in the little cups. Easy to take with you if you are on the go. I got some plain grits (if u like them). I also got me a few good pillows, since I know Im going to be resting for a few days. Hope this helps Jen

Thanks for the info, I had read a poem about the wooden spoon but I didn't get what they were saying. Thanks for clearing that up. My list is growing...good luck on your surgery if you haven't had it yet. Denise

Denise, Best thing for me right after surgery was taking things like chicken noodle soup, heating as directed, then draining the broth into a coffee cup - much better than plain canned broth. You can do the jell-o gelatin or pudding (if you can do milk). I take 2 children's vitamins - the Sam's Club version of Flintstone Vitamins - plus calcium (Caltrate - 600mg chewable) & B-12 (you put the pill under your tounge and it disolves - gives a good energy boost - my Dr. requires it). Biggest thing to watch is for any sugars. - Oh! and I found out today that we can take Junior Strength children's Tylenol when we are done with our prescription pain meds (take 4 of the 160mg). Just DON'T TAKE THEM TOGETHER if you are on hydrocodone (Lortab) - it already has Tylenol in it and you don't want too much. It might sound silly, but a cordless phone is a must for me! Less time I have to try to "hurry" to the phone when I can't hurry! Amanda

Hi D'Lynne. I know there's a chewable calcium I bought at my grocery store (Publix). It's called Viactive, and comes in chocolate, carmel, and some other flavors. Not bad at all. Cheryl
