When Can I Eat...
Normally I'd call Dr. Freeman's office and ask this of the nutritionist, but she's out on maternity leave... so I'll ask the brightest bunch of people I know!
I'm wondering when I can eat some stuff. I'm coming up on my 2nd month anniversary (01/18) and I've kind of jumped the gun on some stuff--found out today (thanks to Smart Ones Chicken Fiesta) that I can handle rice with no problems, going to experiment with pasta tomorrow (SO Spaghetti Bolognese), we financially need to be able to fall back on our cheap meals like spaghetti and red beans and rice--but there are things I'd like to add back in. So if no one minds...
--When can I eat dry cereal with milk (which doesn't bother me)?
--If I went to Taco Bell now, should a taco be eaten with or without the shell? What about a burrito (well, half of one)?
--I ate about 3/4 of the SO Chicken Fiesta today (all the meat, left about 1/3 cup of rice). Is that too much? I wasn't uncomfortable, chewed everything to a mush...
--How much bun or bread on a hamburger is proper? Say a 3 oz burger, so I'd get the most protein. I can eat it without bread altogether, but it would be nice to pick it up once in a while...
So far I've done pretty well with everything I've tried, and things that didn't work, I've waited a week or so and tried again. I chew chew chew, try to get my protein first, and am up to 64 oz of water a day now, shooting for 100. Still laplegged and goggle-eyed when I walk, my PCP is treating my BP and I'll likely have an MRI on Monday to see if there's anything physical going on. But other than that I feel great!

Lorri,
Isn't it funny how different docs have different plans for us?
The plan I am on is this (and I am a new post op - 1/3/05):
Week 1 - liquid only (not just the clear ones, but skim milk, protein drink, etc.)
Week 2-6 - soft proteins & liquids (I have to eat a scrambled egg before my post op and if I handle that okay, then I can have the soft proteins)
Week 7-6 months - no red meat, leafy greens, or simple carbs (white bread, regular pasta, rice, potatoes, etc.)
7 months - forever - add back red meat and leafy greens if desired.
Hope that helps! I'm terrified to try new things because I don't want to mess up the last chance I have at weight loss and stretch my pouch...I probably will be on the scaredy-cat end of most of my eating for awhile, but that's just me. I am sure that my doc is being WAY over cautious, but I've seen it work with many others, so that's what I'm going with.
Don't know if it helps, but there you go!
Amanda
Lorri,
your doc allows pasta andwhite bread, rice and potatoes in weeks 6-7??
mydietician said to stay away from carbs and if so in very lite moderation. no white bread to use a whole grain with 3 grams of fiber or more and potatoes to use either a small red or yukon gold as they are more waxy and desolves less sugar in to diet. also no pasta unless whole wheat.
be carefull you do not want to sabatoge yourself. she has me sticking to a low glycemica type diet. protien first always not more than 25% starch and 45% green veg and salads good luck hope this helps
