A Newbie Here!
I have been researching the WLS and reading post for sometime now. I think everyone is doing so well and I can't wait to become a "loser" like the rest.
So far I have decided on Dr. Duncan. They called me the other day telling me they rec'd my package but I have to go to the seminar on the 18th. Seems like I have to do that before the 1st appointment. Which it is fine with me. All the info I can get the better!
My family is somewhat on the fence about me having the surgery. The only ones that seem to support it without question and even covering the cost the insurance doesn't pay is my father and step mother. They have been so great with everything. My husband is just worried. He lost his 1st wife to cancer and just doesn't want anything to happen to me. I have explained to him with me having this surgery, its going to help me out in the long run so I can be here on this earth longer
My best friend has done a lot of research and is very supportive. Brandy is great!
My mother is another story. She is worried about me having the surgery, but will not take the time to read the information that I have emailed and printed out for her. Oh well.... Does anyone else have this problem?
Sorry this post is so long. I am just really excited about starting this journey in finding me. I hope to make some friends that are going through this too. Take care!

welcome to our little family.. we will help you in all we can, also I too have the same problem with my family. Im only 25 and my parents think Im just crazy for doing this. My husband too is so worried about me, and will I recover well, and how is he going to take care of our son and work. However as the months went by my folks saw me doing all these tests that the doctors were making me do, so they are seeing that I am getting a head to toe look over to make sure Im okay for surgery. Im set for my surgery next friday the 14th. in the long run my mom is going to be there at my side and my husband will be too. and the rest of my family is going to help with my son. I wish you the best of luck.. also about what insurance dont cover, so far my insurance has covered most everything.. I just paid the reg office co-pays. Good luck Jen
Hello and Welcome Kimberely,
I would like to say I am a patient of Dr. Duncan's office. I can only say wonderful things about him and his staff. I can also agree that my husband didn't want me to go this surgery either. I really had to explain to him how this was very important health wise. I one day would like to have a baby and I know getting off this weight is going to help me. My mom and sister where looking into having a lapband surgery. My sister was approve before me. She is doing great with it! Just keep him inform and follow everything the doctor tells you and you will do fine! Again welcome to the WLS family.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I am so excited, but still sooo nervous! I am glad that I will have to get all the test done before surgery. With my insurance, I do not have to have a PCP. All the health problems I have had in the past, I have gone to my GYN doctor for (I have PCOS).
I have heard nothing but wonderful things about Dr. Duncans office and staff. I can't wait to meet them. About how long does it take from the 1st appointment to the surgery date?
Again, thansk for the warm welcome. I look forward to chatting with ya'll more!

Welcome Kimberly! It is a hard thing to convince others that you know what you are doing when you choose to have this surgery. People will tell you horror stories hoping to change your mind. Some people will tell you all kinds of things to make you stop. If you are doing this for you then don't let anyone or anything stop you. Do all the research and ask all your questions. There are over 800 members on this Georgia board alone, so I am sure you can get an answer to any questions you have. The only stupid question is the one not asked. If you need anything at all, just yell. We are here for you.
Hugs,
Debra =^..^=
WELCOME to our ever "shrinking" family! I'm glad you decided to join us. It's normal for your family and freind to be worried about you. There are two main reasons for this.
1) They are not as informed as you are about this porcedure. They know there are risks - but are not aware that it is a greater risk to continue being obese.
2) They love you and don't want to see anything happen to you! Can you blame them?
This surgery is a personal decision that YOU must make for what is your best intrest! We as a group are here to help and be a support to each other. Please let us know if there is anything we can do for you!!!
Best of luck to you!

350/202/healthy!
I understand their concern. But I just wish my mother would take the time to read what I emailed her. Or even read the copy I made for her, lol. I love my mother very much, wish we were as close as she is with my younger brother and sister. I know if it were them, she would of done all the research herself. Oh well. Guess thats why I am a daddys girl! He and my step mother have been so wonderful. I am very fortunate to have them. They know how much this means to me and I know they will give me support.
Again, I really do appreciate the warm welcome! I will keep everyone posted as time goes by.

"Soon to be LOSER"
Welcome Kimberly , I didn't have any trouble with my faimly , since my brother in law had, had the surgery and lost 100 pounds and my cousin had the surgery and lost 240 pounds 9 years ago . I did great and have not had any problems. I did have to go to the hospital on Dec. 29 with stomach pain , the E R doctor and then my PCP and a gastroenterologist all said the pain had nothing to do with the weight loss surgery. They think it might be a gall stone that formed after my gallbladder surgery. Judy
