recovering at home

I am having surgery in a few weeks and was just looking for some advice. I don't have a recliner and my bedroom is upstairs. I was wondering if I should go out and buy a recliner or perhaps rent a hospital bed.

Kimberly, It may not be necessary for the recliner. I just got home from the hospital yesterday, and when I was discharged, the nurse gave me these specific things I could do: walking, using stairs and (gasp!) sex (now how you are supposed to do that last one when you have all of these new little holes in your tummy is beyond me...but I'll leave that to your imagination). The things I was told I could NOT do were: drive or lift anything (again...sex?...how?) - not driving is mainly because of the pain meds you will be taking. True, I have enjoyed my recliner, but I also slept in my own bed last night and as long as I got up every 4 hours to take the next dose of pain meds (and potty), I had no problem getting in and out of bed. Hopefully, you will have as easy a time, but if anything, you should have no problem taking your stairs (S-L-O-W-L-Y) to get to your bed. Hope that helps! Amanda

You should be find to sleep in your bed - just use lots of pillows to prop yourself up. After about 5 days I was ready to LAY DOWN!!!! Take the stairs slowly - but you'll be FINE!!! If you need anything just give a shout and I'll do what I can!

After laying in the hospital bed for 3 nights, I was ready to come home and get in my own bed. I propped my knees with a pillow, and off I went to never never land. Oh, it was so good to be back in my own bed. You should be fine, and good luck with your upcoming surgery.

I had lap. surgery and slept in my bed my first night home. Of course, I couldn't live without my recliner, but I wouldn't buy one just for this. Unless, you're just looking for an excuse.
