Recovery time with open RNY?

I just found out that my surgeon will be doing a "modified open" RNY, when I had thought it would be laparoscopic. Anyone had this type of procedure? Any insights into recovery time, experience, etc.? I'm disappointed it will not be lap, because I was looking forward to an easier recovery, and this is making me a bit jittery. Help! Cheryl

Hi Cheryl, I was only out of comission for about a week. I was able to get around good after that. Or as good as I was before my surgery, anyway. To be honest, I would rather have the open than the lap. But just my opinion. Hope to see more post from you. Hugs, Debra =^..^=

Don't worry. I had an open RNY on a Tuesday, and was literally back in my office Friday afternoon (although only for 1/2 the day). The faster you are up and around, and the more you prepare yourself physically before you have the surgery, the better your recovery.

Thanks for the tips. I'm really glad to hear all your reports. Guess I'd better get busier on the treadmill and total gym in the next 3 weeks! Cheryl
