I have a chest cold where the phlem is now green, congestion, runny nose, body aches, cough, & low grade fever...sounds like the flu. In the past, I've needed antibiotics to clear this up. Anyway, I know we have to be very specific on the type of medication we take (depending on where the site of action the medication breaks down either in the stomach or small intestine). I had a distal RNY on 12/8 and am tolerating everything well. My problem is that my GBS doc is still on holiday vacation until Wednesday and I don't want to get any worse and I need to make an appointment with the PCP...who doesn't have a great knowledge of GBS and the proper meds. Has anyone had this situation? If so, what type of antibiotics did they prescribe for you.

My surgery was on 12-1-04... And I had to go to the doc last week because of the same stuff. My PCP gave me Amoxicillin suspension. Sheesh... I hate liquids.... But it seemed to have done the trick. I feel much better, but my phlegm hasn't changed back color yet.

Well, I just got over having almost every antibiotic know to man either delivered IV or orally, and seems there's not much we can't take. I've had Cipro, Bactrim, tetracycline, Levaquin... You just need to go on to your PCP and get seen. The only real issue you might have is if you have to take something with food, or if the pill is really big... Lorri

Hi! I have been trying to get over a kidney infection and my doctor discovered that the antibotic pills she gave me 3 weeks ago did not get absorbed in my pouch or intestines. So she gave me a shot of antibotic and liquid antibotic to take for 10 days and it should clear up. The liquid gets absorded in your system as to where the pills may or may not. Have your pcp prescribe you a liquid antibotic and also give you a shot of the antibotic as well to help clear up your infection. Hope this helps. karen.
