Hospital choice??
Hello. I received my surgery date yesterday, January 17, only 2 weeks away! I am still on an emotional ride but I am excited. My surgeon, Dr. Macik, asked me which hospital I wanted to go to either Northside or Dunwoody Emory and I chose Northside just because I have been to Northside. Does anyone have any thoughts on either hospital? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Much Thanks!
Bonnie
Hi Bonnie,
I had my surgery on Dec 1st at Emory Dunwoody and they were FANTASTIC!!!!! It is a rather small hospital, and it gave them the opportunity to give me lots of attention. I would highly recommend them anytime. Plus they have these beds there that sit you up, and put you out of the end after the foot of the bed drops. I was so glad that I didn't have to be pulled up out of bed.
Good Luck to you!

Bonnie, go with Northside Hospital, I had my open RNY there in April of 1999, it too has the lift beds that put you to the edge of the bed when you need to get up, I also had my partial hysterectomy there in May of 2000, and I had my Abdominalplasty {TUMMYTUCK} done there in December of 2002 and I wouldn't dare go any where else, they have a part of the hospital called the "Women's Wing" and I asked to be place on that floor for the hysterectomy and the abdominalplasty, because it's only women on that floor, and Girl let me tell ya those nurses baby and pamper their patients like real caring nurses are suppose to do, they make you not want to leave, because you know the pampering will come to a stop. So take it from me, a girl whose had many surgeries there and I plan on getting my thighplasty done there as well, just waiting on approval from the insurance company. I hope this will persaude you to go to Northside, God has been there for me as those nursing staff nurses I guess you might say God was in those nurses; talk to you soon and make the best choice and give yourself the best that you truely deserve.

Hi!
Dr. Macik was my doctor also, my surgery was Oct 14, 04. He's great. I had my surgery done at Northside Hospital. Check with your insurance company and see what hospital they state to use. My HMO selected my doctor & hospital, which was great for me, I had no leg work to do, just show up for appointments. Northside hospital was great, there's no words to say how great the staff are; they saw to my every needs. You will like them. Hope this helps.
Congrats on your choice of doctors. I had Dr. Macik also and I am doing wonderfully. People cannot believe how easy my surgery went. My surgery was at Emory Dunwoody. My husband nor I have any complaints about the facility or staff. I never had to ask twice for anything or wait more than a minute or two. The hospital is small and you don't have all of the parking and traffic hassles of Northside. I visited Emory Dunwoody to look at the facilities before my surgery. Maybe you should stop by each ward and see what you think. All of the personnel at Emory Dunwoody were nice even the Admissions people.
As far as the surgery, I have not stopped since the day I came home from the hospital. Then thing that shocked me the most is that I did not have any soreness in my stomach area afterwards. My stomach was really sore for a week or more after I had my gallbladder removed, so I just assumed it would be the same. I was wrong. Dr. Macik is a very gentle doctor who came highly recommended to me from professionals in the field. Good luck on your upcoming surgery, I hope your experience will be as easy going as mine was.
