Post-op Diet Question

I need some advice.... I had distal RNY surgery on 12/8 and my doc's diet plan was for 2 weeks of clear liquids, 2 weeks of full liquids, and 2 weeks of soft foods...then a "regular" diet and 2 protein drinks a day since clear liquids. Doing research, slowly advancing the diet like this seemed really...really conservative to me. I did 12 days of clear liquids...hope to NEVER see jello again!! And 2 days of full liquids...there is only so much soup you can drink!!! I advanced myself to soft diet a few days ago. I chew everything very, very well and haven't had any problems. I can tell when I get full and stop eating. And...I'm drinking my 2 protein drinks a day. I still try to get in 60oz of liquids and 50-60gm of protein a day (this, too, is what my doc recommends). I feel great and I'm losing weight! It's only been a little over 2 weeks and I've lost 20lbs. But my doc says if I advance my diet too quickly that my new stomach will stretch and I won't lose any weight. I just can't see that happenning with the minute amount of food that I am taking in...but it scared me! I need to hear from some successful post-ops!!! For those that are post-op and have lost some weight, what did your diet consist of immediately after surgery and for how long?

Hey Cindy. For the first week I was on liquids. The second week I started soft food and the protein. Then the third week I started on other food except for beef, pork and green leafy vegetables. I couldn't have those three until the 6th month. Making sure to chew extremely well. My surgery was July 6th and have lost 105 so far and still losing. I am losing at a slower pace but still losing. All the doctors have different advice. I hope this helps some. May you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year with the new you. Hugs, Debra =^..^=
