I'm 4 weeks post op (11-19-04) and have been really craving a salad. When is it okay to eat lettuce? Also, when does food start tasting good again? I'll eat something that, in my mind I know tastes really good, but then when I start eating it....it's not very satisfying. I haven't had any problems since my surgery and my energy level is great. I'm just not liking what I put in my mouth.

I have never had a problem with Lettuce ...but others still have not tried it ...I would kinda see what your doc said first ..and then like one of my docs said if you chew it up very good you should be fine and if it bothers you then dont eat it ......So i think it iws more trial and error than anything ..... Hey Deborah, I wasn't able to eat lettuce until I started my 5th month. My doc said it is hard to digest so I waited til then. He recommended the 6th month for green leafy vegetables, beef and pork because of the digestion. All docs differ in their ideas. It might be wise to wait a little longer. But you can always ask your doc. If you need anything, just yell. Hugs, Debra =^..^=

This is one of those posts that I differ from everyone else. I started eating salads at about 12 weeks out because I couldn't find many foods that agreed with me! Since lettuce is a water based plant - even though it's roughage - it was something easy for me. I'd recommend talking with your doctor about the lettuce though. As far as your tastes go - you're in Ketosis. This is normal. Increase your vitamin intake and your water intake and it will help to re-adjust your tastes! Don't worry - this is normal for things to taste different to you now! Try some of the different foods that you may not have eaten pre-op. They may taste better to you!!! Keep up your good work!!!!!
