I had posted last week about me taking a sleep test and I got the results today. I have sleep apnea. From the few hours I did sleep I stop breathing 32 times and my ox. level dropped to 80. So I have to go back thurs. for my second time. Can I take a sleeping pill or something? Went to the E.R. last week also because my heart felt like it was doing cartwheels in my chest and also my left arm and hand was tingleing. I really was scared, but the doc. said that it was o.k. and to follow up w/ my pcp, so he made me wear a moniter for 24 hrs. and I had a echocardio today. I will know the result of all of this on friday. Just thought I would update. Thanks for listening W Williams

Thanks for the update. I've researched sleep apnea, and I've found "ingestion of sleeping pills increases the frequency and duration of breathing pauses in people with sleep apnea." (I got this by searching 'sleep apnea' on yahoo, and clicking on the second item - www.sleepfoundation.org/publications/sleepap.html). I hope that your doing well, keep us updated God Bless, Tiffany.

Hey W.Williams, I am not far from Athens. I had sleep apena also and other sleep disorders. For my first test I had nothing and oly slept for about 30 minutes. For teh next part they gave me a prescription to help me sleep but it didn't work either. The best thing to do would be to ask the sleep study people what they reccomend. If they say they can give you a prescription than they will know what the results on the test will be and can account for that. The second test is mainly to see if the CPAP will work for you or if some other course is needed. Since my surgery, three weeks after, I was able to get off my machine and don't have to use it any more. My other sleep problems are still here but not the apena any more. If you need anything just let me know. I will do what I can to help. Hugs, Debra in Arcade =^..^=

Welcome to the club. It's not so bad once you get used to it. I spent a lot of time on sleepnet.com. They have tons of information for you. If you had difficulty falling asleep the first time, call your PCP and tell him about it. Ask him if he would give you an Ambien for the night of the study. It works wonders! Good luck!
