Food stuck for the first time!
Ok guys, I had a hell of a night last night. I guess I'm lucky it hasn't happened before now, but I got roast beef stuck in my pouch last night. I know I ate too much, too fast, and didn't chew good enough. I know this now...but it didn't help me then! From about 8pm last night till 4:30am this morning every time I would swallow saliva or water, anything, it would froth and foam and come right back up. I tried to bring it all up time and time again, and I guess this morning I either finally got it up, or it moved on through. Misery! Not to be too graphic but I wore out 3 towels trying to lay in bed and dose, but everytime I'd swallow I'd have to spit it up.
Now I've learned my lesson from this, trust me, but if I do ever get anything stuck again, are there any tricks to getting it to go down? I bargained with every deity I could think of to get this over with and even cried about it (I'm such a baby). I had visions of going to the ER this morning and having to have an endiscopy.....thank god when I woke up I could swallow water, etx. I've been taking it easy on Priscilla today and she's a little achy, but I guess I'm okay after all.
Any good tips or suggestions? Other than chew better, cause I know that now!
Kelle
Oh go****hat sounds horrid! I was so afraid that I got a chunk of pineapple stuck Saturday night. Right as it was going down I had an "Oh ****!" moment.LOL
Anywho, my Surgeon recommends with meat tenderizer mixed w/ warm water or papaya nectar(it acts as a tenderizer)
Hope it never happens again for you...or me for that matter.
Hugs to you & Priscilla,
Tonya
Girl! Im having the "heebie jeebies" just reading and thinking about your night! You poor thang! Lawd...I've had things get "stuck" and I understand the pain but NEVER< NEVER!! for that length of time. Ive been lucky enough to barf it up and clear the pipes. Sheesh, I'm glad you're OK. I would have cried TOO! That's awful! I don't have any help but I'm making notes as others suggest!
Hey Kelle:
I experienced an obstructed stoma when I ate some ground beef early postop and I bought a papaya and ate a few hunks of that and it did work to help get the meat to go down, however it takes a couple of hours to work. Now that I am further along and I realize that the food is just sitting there I make myself throw it up and it usually is hunks of meat that I didn't chew properly. I hear the papaya juice is better than the actual fruit (you don't have to mess with all the seeds and stuff. So I always keep some on hand, just in case.
