My name is Callie and I am 21 years old. I am considered "morbidly obese" with a BMI of 41. I have a long family history of obesity related issues. My whole father's side of the family has diabetes. My mother's side has high blood pressure, cholesterol, knee replacements. etc. I scared I am heading down the same path. I have a 15 month old son, I need to be healthy! I have made an appointment to see my PCP tomorrow...any suggestions how I should present me having this surgery? Thanks! Callie

I would present it just like you did here!!! I was nervous too when I first approached my PCP. She picked up on my request immediately and was extremely supportive. I'm wishing the same for you, Callie! Hugs, Becky

Girl! I would print what you just wrote to us, and take it with you! Sounds like a very convincing argument to me!! I wish you all the best, and welcome to our board! Come back and ask any question you need...there is never a question that you should be embarrased or afraid to ask! Tami

Hi Callie! I'm Tiffany, I'm 21 also!! When I went in to talk to my pcp I told him about my family history and my diet history, he wrote everything down. My pcp wasn't very wls friendly, I had to argue with him to get him to send in my letter to the insurance company. Just make sure to tell your pcp about any fears that you have that are associated with your obesity (fear of family history, ect.). I wrote a list of problems that I have that are obesity related (swollen hands, social anxiety, depression, back pain, ect.) Don't be shy, let all of your emotions out. Make sure to let your pcp see how much your weight truely bothers you. That's what I did. I made sure that I was informed about the procedure that I wanted to have done, and I had lists of my family history, my fears, diet history, and my problems associated with my obesity. If you're well prepared, they'll notice. Best of luck to you, let us know how it goes God Bless, Tiffany.
