I don't know what to do!!! Help! ... My step father is in the military, and he's got orders to Alamagordo, New Mexico for July. We moved to Valdosta 5 years ago. I grew up in New Mexico, we lived there for 17 years before we moved out here. Okay, I have come this far with this wls, but we're moving in 7 months. Should I go through with this? I'm worried that I'll get this done close to our moving date... I don't want to move away from my surgeon. but! there are no bariatric surgeons in New Mexico. If I waited to get this surgery done after we move to New Mexico, I'll have to go to Texas or Arizona to get it done (no bariatric surgeons in New Mexico). HELP!!!! I don't want to wait until we move- I don't want to show my face around Albuquerque, everyone I graduated with are still there! I think that my social anxiety will get worse if I move to NM like this. I've gained 100+ pounds since we moved 5 years ago. I've never lived on my own, so I'm, scared that if I go through with the wls here, I'll have to live (alone) in Atlanta for a little while. I dont think I'm strong enough to live alone, I get too depressed. I don't have any family in Georgia, I hardly know anyone. I don't want to stay here alone, but my health is depending on it... WHAT SHOULD I DO?????

Tiffany I say go ahead and go thru with it .....I mean no matter what it sounds like you are going to be far away from your surgen ( one in TX or GA) so i say go ahead and get going and get it done before you move and then you can ask your surgen here to recamend someone out there for you to see if something comes up !!! I think it will all work out dont stress and just go with it .....but i think you will be fine getting it done out here !!! Laura

Tiffany, I had my surgery done in Ohio, and have sinced moved here to Georgia. My surgeon wrote all of my lab orders that I would need, gave me plenty of refills for my vitamins, and told me to find a PCP who specializes in Internal Medicine. I did all that and I am doing fine, I asked my PCP if I needed to find a bariatric surgeon here just in case, and she told me that if I needed one, she would get me into one asap. I have been here since this past spring, and have yet to have any problems! Good Luck, Cathy Martin

Just a thought, but have you posted your question on the New Mexico Board? I don't know how current it is, but University Health Sciences Center in Albuquerque lists 3 surgeons and this is on the ObesityHelp website. It is at: http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/bariatric+surgery+hospitals+in+new+mexico.html Good luck with your decision. Patti

Hey Tiffany, I know that is a tough decision. If I had the extra room you could stay here til better, but my oldest daughter moved in with us. The decision will be yours in the end but if you can, I would get the surgery done as soon as possible. There are surgeons in Mexico that a few of the women on the board have gone to also, if you will be closer there. Make sure you don't rush and pick the wrong surgeon though. If you need anything, just yell. We are all here to help when we can. Hugs, Debra =^..^=

To quote Larry the Cable Guy..."GIT R DONE"!!! Go ahead with your plans here to have it done. Step dad isn't leaving until July, and who knows? You may be a happy go lucky post op by then! Even if you have it done at the very time they are leaving, you would really only need 2 or 3 weeks of recovery time before you would be able to travel.... maybe not even that long! I know it will be hard to be alone, but it will only be temporary in order to get a permanent fix on your life! Take care! Tami
