I got this off the WINGS yahoo group and wanted to share. Looks like anyone is welcome and if I could go I would. Sounds good. Guest Speaker: Teri Kai Holtzclaw, PhD SUBJECT: "Weight Gain After Weight Loss (WLS Surgery)" The Northside Support Group Meeting (Note: Some refer to this as the Drs. Waits & Macik Support Group which is not correct) is one of Atlanta's oldest Gastric Bypass Support Group monthly meetings. And until January of 2003, Teri Holtzclaw used to co-anchor this Support group with Karen Bonney. For many W.I.N.G.S. members, Teri Holtzclaw flew in SPECIALLY just to speak to our W.I.N.G.S. Monthly Support Group meeting back in October. At that time, she committed to return for more speaking engagements. And now she is. She is flying in this week just to adress the Northside Meeting. Which is an "OPEN MEETING" for all WLS Pre-Ops and post-ops alike. DATE: THIS THURSDAY - Dec 9th - LATE AFTERNOON/EVENING (See below). Teri is currently Associate Vice-President of Behavioral Health Services for VOW Solutions, A division of Vista Medical Technologies, Inc. Vista is America's largest publically-traded bariatric surgical program management and consulting services provider. Teri received HIGH MARKS for her October talk to WINGS & she will continue that same "theme." The area she now likes to focus on (for WLS Post Ops) is "A Social Fitness Program For WLS Patients." This is basically a Program for WLS Post Ops that VALUES our (your) Emotional, Mental and Spiritual well being and Balance. And she likes to specifically deal with "WEIGHT GAIN AFTER WEIGHT LOSS." Ths is a subject she herself deals with each and every day according to her. Teri received her own Gastric Bypass surgery here in Atlanta, more than 8 years ago. She lost 175 pounds and has kept it off for that long. That's a remarkable achievement in itself. Now .... For those of you who were not able to attend the October W.I.N.G.S. meeting ..... Many WINGS members were not able to attend our October W.I.N.G.S. when Teri spoke - Now you get a small HOLIDAY TREAT and a second opportunity to listen to Teri talk about important Post Op items. This is a great Holiday time of the year to take a little time for yourself. The Northside Support Group meeting was started originally BY Drs Waits and Macik, AND it has ALWAYS been an OPEN MEETING"" to all WLS Pre Ops, Post Ops and ANY other interested parties. LOCATION: 980 Johnson-Ferry Road This is the Doctor's office building IMMEDIATELY adjacent to - WEST SIDE - and on the same side of the street as Northside Hospital. Basement Classrooms - Same location as for both Dr John Daly's and Dr Christopher Hart's monthly support group meetings. Covered Parking is BEHIND this building. DATE: Thursday: December 9th, 2004 (Second Thursday in December). TIME: 5:30 pm until "about" 7 to 7:30 pm. Please note: WINGS moderators have already approved the posting of this message. Teri Holtzclaw's background is: Dr. Holtzclaw is a certified mental health and a certified addition counselor as well as a nationally-known and sought out behavioral specialist, speaker and consultant. She has extensive experience in the provision of case management and psychotherapeutic services to morbidly obese patients. Dr. Holtzclaw is often invited to speak before large audiences on eating disorders and the mind/body connection. She also gives appearances on radio talk shows and supports community programs by speaking for various local organizations in the Southeast and across the nation. Dr. Holtzclaw is active with the international medical community and with hospitals around the world. She is an Allied Healthcare member of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery, The International Federation of Surgery for Obesity, The American Obesity Association and an Allied Healthcare professional of The American Society of Bariatric Physicians. She has contributed to a variety of obesity-related publications and has authored several books and mental health guides for the gastric bypass patient including: "This Is NOT Brain Surgery!", "The Magic Pill, A Mental Health Companion to the Gastric Bypass Patient"; and, "This Is NOT Brain Surgery...But There IS A Magic Pill!." Prior to joining VOW Solutions, Inc., Dr. Holtzclaw ran her own bariatric practice consultancy, www.becomeyou.com. Unfortunately, her website is currently being re-designed for 2005 and currently is not "up." Additionally, Dr. Holtzclaw has held numerous behavioral health positions within State, County, non-profit and for-profit organizations and she remains active with State Counselor Associations across the country. Best Wishes to all and we hope every W.I.N.G.S. member can take advantage of this rare opportunity to hear a great talk at this Holiday time of the year. Happy Holidays during this Joyous Time of the year to each and every W.I.N.G.S. member ! Mike
