That's IT!!!
Well, today has really sucked and I need to vent so here goes.....BCBS SUCKS ASS!!!!! I have been calling and calling to get an answer and so has one of my co-workers, well, today she got her approval but get this...she is only approved through December 31st. If she doesn't have it done before then the approval is lost. Ok, so I heard this and started panicking. I got on the phone and called them myself and questioned that. So after being on hold forever the guy comes back and says that it is true. Our company didn't take the extra inclusion for Bariatrics. SOOOOO...what that means is that even IF I am approved there is no way that I can get the surgery because Dr. Burrowes is already booked up through December and into January. I am devastated!!! All this work..for nothing...all the hope....gone. I don't understand WHY. This is so unfair to us. No hope of even having time to find a surgeon that is NOT booked up because if you change surgeons they have to go back to BCBS and resubmit basically. BCBS sucks so bad!! I just want to go crawl in bed and cry right now. I have wanted this for SO long and to hit a dead end is the worst. I KNOW in my heart that if I don't get this surgery that I am going to die, but the insurance company doesn't really give a crap about me....I am just a number to them. They aren't thinking about the two kids that depend on me fully or the fact that I WANT to live. All they are worried about is the almighty dollar. I guess human lives are dispensable *shrug*. I give up!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks to everyone on here that has been so helpful and making me feel welcome. Thanks to Laura Champagne for helping me out with all the info. I hope everyone is successful on thier journey and wish you ALL the best.
I don't know if you've tried this, but tell your Doctor about the insurance situation and see if he will try to squeeze you in. I told my surgeon this as soon as I found out (mid-November) and she said she is willing to squeeze me in due to my insurance cir****tances...hope this helps.
On another note, I'm pissed because BCBS received my paperwork on Nov. 18 and they have a 15 business day turnaround. I found out on Monday that they haven't even looked at my file! Furthermore, they are refusing to tell me if my file is complete and if they look at it on Dec. 10 and find that something is missing, the 15 days starts all over again once they receive what they need. I'm about to raise holy hell tomorrow...I have a job and I need to give people notice if I'm going to be out 3 weeks!

I am devastated just reading what you wrote. I am so so so sorry for this news. I knew that BCBS was placing stipulations on this surgery and am not surprised at what you are saying. But even knowing that it's not until you actually hear it that hurts. Shree I feel your pain thru this post and believe me I am so sorry. I just believe there is always a way. Is it impossible that if Your surgeon knows your dilema that someone or his staff can change surgery dates with you at all. My surgeon changed dates with me and I had it 3 weeks early. It's worth a try. But no matter what happens have faith. Sounds crazy now I know just have it. For your family for you. Your a wonderful person no matter what

Shree, Don't give up!!! This is so heart-breaking! I truly believe that you WILL have the surgery. I agree about calling the surgeon's office tomorrow to see about working your surgery in this month. I would also keep calling BCBS. They better do the right thing!!!

Sounds like I need to get my big butt in gear and go sit on a doctor until he agrees to do it before the end of the year. I think he will yell okay before long. I wish there was some way I could help you to have it done by the end of the year. I agree with the others, call and ask the doc, not the staff about changing it around. Even make an appointment and go talk to him face to face. Let him see how you need this so bad. Or call the insurance commisioner of Georgia and see if they have any ideas. You never know. My thoughts and prayers are with you. If there is anything I can do, just yell and I will do it.

That's Bull****! I'm sorry for the language, but it is. Someone needs to take BCBS to court. They are failing to do their job. People who are overweight can have serious health problems in the future, and cutting them off from wls is only going to cost BCBS more money. I wish there was something I could do, something I could say to make you feel better. I agree with the rest of the relpy's, talk to the doctor, write letters, raise hell! This is your health. There has to be a way around this. I will keep you in my prayers Shree. Keep you head up.

I am so sorry about all of the stuff you are going through. I really don't know much about the whole Ins stuff, where I had mine done in Ohio, they did it all. I thought though that if you got a pre-cert for something, that it was good for like 30-60 days. Am I totally wrong here? I also agree with the others about calling the doctor and explaining the situation, there are always cancellations with other patients for some reason or another, and maybe you could sqeeze in there? Please don't give up, I know exactly how it feels to know that this surgery is your lifesaver and that you have to have it, I still have faith and hope that you will have it to. You have my prayers, please let me know if you hear anything else..

Do NOT GIVE UP YET !!! i mean you should know today you are approved ...and then ya know even though his schedule is fullhe can bump someone ...Not to be mean to someone else but if there insurance will cover it in Jan and yours will not ..i would think they would understand ....also i read about people getting post poned all the time on here so there is that chance .....so there is hope still i would say ..I mean pre op is just a day and you can do that the day before so there is nothing to worrie about but calling his office once your approved and getting BCBS to FAX over your approvel to the office ...and begging them to work you in !!! i know this can be done i am sure of it ...might suck with christmas and all but you have to do what you have to do ya know !!!

Sorry to hear that you are having this happen to you to. I also have BCBS and I am having my surgery on Dec 17, but if I get sick or anything happens than I'm screwed. They will not cover it after the 31st for me also. So I'm worry that I will get a cold or something will happen. I will keep you prayers that your Dr will get a opening before the 31th. So don't give up!!!
