Sleep apnea testing?

Hello everyone As I am sitting here waiting to get a reply from my insurance company, I keep wondering, how much is the sleep apnea test? I know that we all have different insurance companies, just ball park it. I've heard that it can be $2,000 to be tested with insurance. I don't know if that's true or not, but it's a crazy thought. Just wondering. God Bless, Tiffany PS- I have Tricare insurance.

Thank you Tami! I guess it shouldn't be much. Tricare is usually really good about paying for medical stuff. I was just worried that it would be really expensive. Tiffany.

I didn't have to pay for my sleep test, but I had United Healthcare. My test was several years ago, long before I decided to have WLS. Hope it works out for you. If at all possible, ask for a "split" test where they watch you for the first 1/2 of the night, then put you on the machine the rest of the night. It's easier than having two separate tests. Mine worked out fine. When my hubby had his test, he stopped breathing so many times in the first HOUR that they went ahead and put him on the machine then!! Ann in Duluth

I had the exact same thing happen. I was scheduled for the split study, but the guy woke me up after about an hour and set me up on the CPAP. I still smirk when I remember him saying, "You are just eat up with apnea".

Thank you Ann, of course that helps! I will keep that in mind. Is your husband doing better now? I hope that everything is going good. God Bless, Tifafny.

Hi Tiffany, I had to have two separate apnea tests. The first one determined that I had severe sleep apnea and I was scheduled for a second one using a C-PAP to see if it helped. I have BCBS of GA, Federal Plan, and prior to having any of my prelimaries, I called to see what would be covered and what would not. In fact, I called two of three times, just to make sure I got the same info from each one I spoke with. I had already spoken with the office staff member at my surgeon's office that handles insurance matters and had gotten the code that is used for each procedure, so that I could pass it along to the insurance company, just to make sure we were on the same page when I spoke with them. I was told that if these things were in preparation for WLS, they would be covered. When I got the notice from the insurance company after the sleep apnea test claim had been filed, each one did indeed cost over $2,000, however I have not had to pay a penny of it. I am not sure if this helps you, and I am not familiar with Tricare, but hopefully it will be the same for you. God bless you! Pat

Hey Tiffany, I also had two of the test, but my insurance paid for all of it and the machine too. But since I have lost almost 100 I don't need the machine any more. Can you call your insurance and ask them if you have a co-pay for the test? Maybe they can tell you something. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Hugs, Debra =^..^=

Tiffany Mine was 1900 so you might as well say 2,000 cause that didn't include my pulmonary care dr to read them and tell me. I think that was like 150 or 200. It was alot though. My insurance paid all but 20% which I have to pay. Good Luck Kathy 12/10/04
