Lap Band?????

Has anyone on this board had the Lap-Band? I am waiting on my Insurance approval & I have so many mixed emotions about the Gastric bypass. I have a son that is 13 and he is so scared something is gonna happen to me, and my husband also feels the same way. I need to loose 110lbs & I was just wondering if that is possible with the band? Any information I can get will help me. I really don't know what to do. Even Dr. Richard told me I was a good candidate for the Lap-Band. Someone please help me out with this decision. I just don't think I am ready for my insides to be rearranged. I'm confused. Tammy Gunter

Hi Tammy..I didn't have the lap band, but there is a message board here at OH that is strictly "Lap Band" folks. The link is http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/surgtype-forums/LapBand/posts.html There is more info if you go up to the top of this page and click on "MAIN ENTRANCE" That will take you to the main page. Up in the upper left hand corner of the page is a drop down menu that says:"MEMBER FORUMS"..if you click on the drop down arrow where it says "SELECT A FORUM" and click on "LAP BAND FORUM" it will take you a page that will guide you to either the message board for the lap band, or Surgeon Reviews but there is a link titled "ABOUT THE LAP BAND". hey Tami, I think he is back.( Dr.Richard) I saw on the upcoming surgeries that he had one on November 18th & another one on December 8, so I am assuming he is back. Thank you for the information on the lap-band. I am ready for this, I just don't think I am ready for the bypass surgery. Nothing against it, I hear it is the best one to have & I did want to have it, but Dr. Richard told me I would be a good candidate for the lap-band & I have thought about that for a long time now & I think I can handle that surgery but the bypass surgery I am just scared.
