Emory ???
I got approval from my insurance company and had to wait for Emory to get it in their computer system. Then they told me I had to wait for them to call me with my pre-op testing date. They said it would take about three days but after a week I called and bugged them. When they called I got a date for about two weeks away and then I had to wait another week to get my Upper endoscopy done.
They went ahead and schedule my last pre-surgery appt. with the understanding I would follow through with the testing. So, I met with the surgeon the day after my endoscopy. (This was the 29th of Oct.)
At my appt. the doctor told me he had an opening on Nov. 2 or I would have to wait until late Nov./early Dec. I took the Nov.2 date even though it only gave me 4 days to prepare for surgery.
HEre is my advice. Emory does not have its act together in terms of scheduling. The more you call them the faster things go. Also, the day of my surgery I was told to show up at the hospital at 5:30 am and found out my surgery was not until 12:30. The hospital told me this is an ongoing problem with the surgeons and the patients should complain because it is totally unnecessary to come in more that two or three hours before surgery. I ended up laying on a bench and falling asleep while waiting several hours for my surgery. Also, because I had gone so long without fluids I was very dehydrated and ended up spending several hours in recovery being rehydrated.
I had Dr. Lin and had my surgery at Crawford Long. I love Dr. Lin and cannot say enough good things about the hospital staff. BUt, I was very frank with Dr. Lin about the Bariatric Departments need to get its act together.
I want to thank everyone for their responses. I've not had time this past week to get on and respond to your messages. At times life just goes on overload if you know what I mean.
FINALLY Friday between 4 & 5 we got the call from Sonja at Emory. His test are scheduled for Nov 17th which is next Wednesday. There was a cancellation so he gets the slot. We will definately be letting Dr. Khaitan know how haphazzard the bariatric department is being run.
