O.k. here goes, the last lady who posted a message like this got flamed so people please be nice I am scheduled for surgery Nov. 16th my pre-op is on the 15th. Here's the delima when I sent my package in to Dr. Champion's office I wrote down a weight that was actually about 15 lbs lighter than I actually was. When they snt out my surgery info they said DO NOT GAIN ANYMORE WEIGHT! just like that or my surgery could be cancelled. So now Ive put myself in the predicament that I have to lose about 15 lbs in less than 2 weeks. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to lose this much weight in this short amount of time? This might sound petty to some people, but not to me. I live in NC and have to drive over 5 hrs and pay a whole lot of money not to be told my surgery is going to be cancelled if I have gained weight. Do you really think he would do that? Thank you, Shelley

Hey Shelley, I don't think they will cancel your surgery if you tell them what happened. I believe that if we could control our weight then we wouldn't need the surgery. I hope that flame was not on this Georgia message board. That would be unusual. Either way, no one from here is going to yell or fuss at you for asking. If they do I will take my cats to their house and say ATTACK. HAHAHA kidding, all they attack is food. If you need anything just let me know. Hugs, Debra =^..^=

Hey, Shelley, I used a different surgeon, but I had the same worries. With your BMI, I think you are okay. Would it make you feel better to call and tell them what happened? I would just about bet that we have all "miscalculated" our weight! Maybe my driver's license will be correct this time. Hugs, Becky

Drink LOTS of water and cut out ALL your carbs for the two weeks and see how that goes....I once lost 45 pounds in a month and a half that way but of course I gained it all back as soon as I started eating rice again *sigh*. Maybe you will drop some of it that way.

Hi Shelley, There are actually some surgeons out there that make their patients lose weight in the days/weeks prior to surgery...I do know that some of the surgeons suggest Optifast - which is a liquid diet...some surgeon's require the liquid diet because it makes the liver shrink and become softer which is a positive thing when undergoing bariatric surgery. I know that Emory Bariatrics is one place that uses it...you could probably call them tomorrow and ask where to get it. Good Luck! Chris S

I just had surgery last week with Dr. Champion. He and the office staff appear to be reasonable people. Just explain that was what you thought you weighed but did not re-weigh yourself before the paper work was sent in to them and have not gained any weight since you actually found out what you weighed. denise

HELLO SHELLEY: THIS IS WHAT A TRAINER TOLD ME TO DO TO LOOSE THE WEIGHT FAST. HE SAID TO EAT CLEAN WHICH MEANS JUST A FEW ITEMS WILL BE ALLOWED. CHICKEN BREAT OR FISH, NO RED MEAT, EGG WHITES, WHICH IS NOT BAD, OATMEAL (WHICH MEANS NO SUGAR, NO MILK, NO TOPPING) STEAMED BROCCLI, SALAD WITH SOME TUNA FISH BUT NO SALAD DRESSING (USE LEMON JUICE AND A LITTLE OLIVE OIL) AND THAT IS ABOUT IT. I WOULD ALSO TRY TO USE PROTEIN SHAKES FOR 2 MEAL REPLACEMENT, MADE WITH WATER OR LOW FAT MILK. NO SUGAR OR SALT, WHAT SO EVER. ALSO EAT SMALL MEALS SO THAT WILL BE ABOUT SIX TIMES A DAY WHICH IS WHAT THIS IS: EGG WHITES & OATMEAL IN MORNING, PROTEIN SHAKE AROUND 10, EAT A PIECE OF CHICKEN AND BROC AT LUNCH, PROTEIN SHAKE AT 3, EAT SALMON OR TAPILIA FOR DINNER WITH A LITTLE SALAD. THIS WILL PROBABLY HELP. TRY THAT FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS AND SOME WALKING AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS. I DON'T THAT DOES NOT SOUND DELICIOUS BUT I THINK IT WILL BE VERY HELPFUL FOR YOU. GOOD LUCK MARY

Hi Shelley I had surgery with Dr. Champion, he and his staff are very compassionate, so I would talk to them just so you don't have that added stress with surgery coming up - that isn't good for you emotionally or physically. Now, that being said Dr. C is also strict on his guidelines, but I think his main concern is your BMI going into the procedure. I started off with a very high BMI, so when I first went to the office they counseled me and put me on a very strict high protein low fat diet. My wait time for surgery was approx. 4 months or so and by addhering to a low fat version of the Atkins Induction phase and drinking tons of water I was able to take 50 lb off. Dr. C wanted me to lose @ least 30 and was very happy with my progress. His reasons for this are very valid because it is just easier on you and him going into surgery with some of the weight gone and apparently it has an effect on shrinking your liver which enables him to perform the Lap procedure with greater ease in turn reducing your risks of complications. This is how it was explained to me and after much research it makes sense. Anyway, I would talk to them just to help ease your own mind and then I would still be really strict and try the induction phase of Atkins, but make sure you get @ least 64 oz of water daily and try to exercise some also. Well, I wish you all the best - you are in good hands with Dr. C so you don't have to worry there. God bless and I hope this helps some Angel

Shelley, my heart goes out it you, truly it does! I cannot imagine why ANYONE would be flamed for posting being in such a predicament. I am glad I missed the one you are referring to, or I may have posted something I would have regretted and probably would have been booted off the board! Dear heart, I will tell you that I share your dilemma! I, too, am scheduled for the 16th, with my pre-op being on Friday, the 12th. I, too, was told to lose 10 to 15 pounds prior to surgery, or it MIGHT be cancelled. But try as I may...it just does not seem to want to come off at all! Upon my visit to the Nutritionist a couple months ago, I was told that the first six weeks post-op would require a totally liquid diet, the first three weeks of which would consist of clear liquids. I was given a sample menu and time table of a daily intake, so I have decided to use THAT as a guideline and try, try, try to stick with it. And, for ME...a person who seems to have zero will power...that is going to be quite an accomplishment! As someone else posted here too...water, water, and more water will help to keep your system flushed out. Exercise, i.e. walking is good, too! If I were able, that is what I would be doing, myself..but my knees are bad. If you possibly can, get out and walk a little several times a day, or around the house, even. I think as long as we keep moving, it will help, even if walking is not possible. I wish you the best of luck, and I will be thnking of you as "our" date approaches. God bless you! Pat
