Periods after Menopause

I'm in my 50's and haven't had periods for a while. Now I'm started a period. I've heard of young overweight people not having periods until they lose some weight, but older women? Could I have not really gone through menopause and its just the weight that stopped my period. If it was this could be concidered a down side of surgery-periods again!
