feeling very tired

The past week or so I have tried to move more onto 'real' food and less of my shakes. Well I have been so tired it isn't funny. So tired I don't feel like exercising or getting up out of bed. I'm having to force myself to work! I am still taking my vitamins and drinking my water so the only thing I can think of it could be is not enough protein. ??? Perhaps it is too soon for me. I am not real thrilled with real food right now anyway. I love fish and tuna and some chicken but alot of other things I no longer care for. Milk is a big NO NO for me. I get severe diarrhea now if I drink it. That is the other thing, the past week I have had alot of diarrhea and before I wasn't having that trouble either. I have decided to go back on my shakes with a little food and see if things improve. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi Tracy, I haven't quite had that problem but the part about not wanting the food any more fits. Yes, it does sound like you need to keep up the protein. I was told that the protein is the most important for the first year. Not sure what other doctors say. What do you use? You can get the unflavored protein powder and mix it in with food and that way you aren't missing any of it. That is what I do. If you need anything just yell. Hugs, Debra =^..^=

I've been using a whey protein from Vitamin Shoppe and making shakes. I do have some labs scheduled for next week so if something else is going on I'm sure they will find it. today I have had 52g of protein so far and am feeling better already.... we shall see if it continues.

Tracy, I had the same thing happen to me at about 3 months post op. It really concerned me, so much so that I went to the doctor and had them do blood work. The only thing that was out of whack was my liver enzymes. That will make you really tired, however, after research I found that it is very common in early postops. You're losing weight so quickly that your liver goes bizzurk. My pcp told me that I needed to push through the tiredness and join Curves. He also gave me injectible B-12. He told me I could give myself a shot once a week for a month and then once a month. Sometimes if your B-12 is within normal limits it can still be lower than your body needs. Getting some extra B-12 can't hurt. You my try that as well. You're right about getting the protein in as well. Hope you start to feeling better...I know how frustrating and totally exhausting this time can be. It takes it's toll. E-mail me if you have any questions or just want to talk. I've had weeks like that too Tracy. Phyllis gave me a B-12 shot and I felt better the next day. Or it could be your body playing catch up. Go back to the shakes and see how that works. I still use shakes daily b/c I can't get enough protein in from food. Try to drink them when you wake, before a work out or before bed, that is when the body is able to use it better. Hugs, Tonya
